Back from Laptop Hard Drive Crash...

#88738 Posted on 2017-01-23 10:06:47

Back on the 11th I had to borrow my hubby's laptop to lock my account. My laptop had been acting up (again) so we took it in to get worked on. Our great tech guys thought he had it all fixed and I got it back for 1 day. I didn't even get a chance to check my email when it just stopped working. Back it went and this time we found out that the hard drive had fried. Luckily, the tech guru had already backed up all of my files from the day before. My real problem was that we were very short on funds. Our washer/dryer had broken down the week before and we had just paid to get that fixed. We were able to scrape up enough to get me a refurbished laptop. Today I was finally able to unlock my EV account. I'm so glad to be back!

One good thing happened while my laptop was down - OUR HOUSE FINALLY SOLD! Our home has been up for sale since October 2015. IT turned out that our former realtor had our home overpriced from the get go and if we had stayed with her it probably would have never sold. Thankfully we switched realtors before the holidays. We actually took our house off the market through the holidays to give us a break. We hadn't even relisted it but our new agent found a buyer. We are so happy!

Congrats :)

if it is just the hdd tho, couldn't you buy a replacement? replacement drives are much cheaper than a refurb laptop. They're super easy to put in, fit in pretty much like legos, or im sure you could pay someone to put it in for you.

Shinku, my old laptop was a laptop/tablet combo. I took it to a pro and he said they way those types of laptops are designed once it's opened it's almost impossible to get it back together. We've been using him for about 10 years so we trust his knowledge. I wish I could have just bought a new hard drive. I really liked my old laptop.

Can't stand those. Even regular laptops are a stretch for me, I like computers you can actually work on yourself lol
That really sucks, dude.

I actually prefer a PC but since I became disabled it's hard for me to sit in an office chair. Laptops allow me to sit where I'm more comfortable. The laptop/tablet combo was a first for me. I liked being able to take the keyboard off for some things but I was always worried I'd drop one of the 2 parts and break it.
