When a player is no longer around?

#80916 Posted on 2016-12-19 07:31:18

So I'm in the process of deciding which characters I want to keep and which I'd like to sell/giveaway. However I own a number of characters created by members which no longer play EV. I'm not sure what the correct way of handling those characters is.

Should I keep them and just add them to my "retired" characters collection? which is to say remove them from my website and never even think about them again.
Should I add them as a giveaway in my sell?
Should I sell them at the price I paid for them? I know what every character I owned cost me as I include it on their information page; the biggest problem with this is that many of the characters have 5+ pieces of art that I purchased for them so I would lose a lot of money.
Should I just sell them for a price I feel is reasonable?
For those members who have dA accounts, and I know their dA names, should I contact them on dA and request permission to sell/giveaway?

Thanks for any help you can offer; I really want to avoid upsetting these members if they should ever decide to return to EV.

If they are characters that the person had created, made multiple different art for, and then later sold them - I would try to find them on da just to ask if they might like to buy them back. If they were gifted to you, normally it's proper to continue gifting.

If they're designs that we're sold to you, which you made a character from, then I feel it's more of a 'do with it what you please' unless it was otherwise stated on the design.

Personally, if it was one of my characters that I decided to sell to cut down on my number, I feel my rights to the character are waived unless otherwise stated. For example, if I were to sell a character but asked to be informed before resale, or have the opportunity to buy it back. If I sold it with no conditions I would expect no notification.

Edit: if you bought the design/character and then got more art made, I don't see a reason why you couldn't resell it for more. Normally design sales state not to sell the design for more than you paid, but it's considered fine if you sell it for higher with a significant amount of art attached.

Most of them were just designs which I then used to create a character and purchased art for, some have 1-2 pieces of art (which I was considering selling for their original price) but one in particular has 9 art pieces that would go with her (2 sigs and 7 tags).

Personally, I would contact them on DA and find out what's their policy. Sometime, they would like to buy it back from you. I know several players who doesn't allow resell but allow giveaways. To be safe, contact the artists to confirm their policy. If you can't find an artist, then retire that character.
