ROFL - Guess I'll never stop breeding them!!!

#78382 Posted on 2016-12-06 17:00:21

I just had a lovely colt born today, from an experiment before I sold his sire to another player, and just couldn't help myself. :3

I ended up looking through all my Mustangs that I'm selling and kept about 14 others. *sighs* Several have decent conformation and some are homozygous for Flaxen!!!! At least two relate directly back to my first Mustangs ever on EV. :3

Ah well, what's another herd to add to my collection?

My mustangs are my only breed where most of my horses have more than four or five generations in their pedigrees. I lucked out having several really nice ones that didn't have any of the ugly new paint patterns (tobiano, overo, sabino) and when I went through my mustangs and cleared out 90% of them, I kept those few.

I just got my very first homebred/lined mare to the national level last week, so that's made me even more invested in them. I now have three active breeds again, even though I told myself I'd stick to one at a time :P

Would you like to cross lines with me? :) I need some new and good lines in my "new" herd. ;)

I really want to restart them, but I have enough going on as it is with my Fries, Tekes, and Shetlands that I probably won't anytime soon (unless I'm bored someday when I am at the real interwebs XD). I wonder if any of my first two mustangs descendants are still around... another thing to check when I'm bored at the real interwebs someday XD

I'm not a huge fan of their art, but mustangs are always a breed I've wanted to dabble in because of the sheer variety of colors they have available. >.>

Too bad I decided that I was gonna do at least a second generation to the mass of breeds I now have: tekes, trakes, andies, paints, qhs, vanners, and appys. It's a neverending cycle but they're just all so pretty.

I still am selling most of my Mustangs; but nostalgia reasons, also because I love conformation, and flaxen is another reason why I'm keeping some. :p

Also, it gives me the chance to experiment with feeding hay cubes, and putting my young ones into the wrong discipline right now; to later be switched to Endurance. :3

I'm doing the same with my tekes. I have two sets of 8 pairs, I have one set with regular treating for racing (carrot/turnip) that go with my regular training technique - showing if they're in the upper stats for their level, riding school if not. Then I have a set eating hay cubes and set to endurance, which will only go to the riding school. I want to see who's pulling ahead, and if the experimental hay cubes group is falling behind by 10 years I'll switch them earlier, but if they're doing alright I'll keep going til I breed them.

I think it'll be worth it in the end; also, many of those Mustangs have been either carefully bred by me or other players, so their non-discipline stats are very low. I'm going to try showing them tomorrow and see who'll win shows. :) If not, they'll be placed in the Riding Schools; which guarantees me money, stats, + treats (most of the time).

I just recently got rid of (put on a spare and locked; though I did sell a few breeds) all breeds except my qhs and clydes. We'll see how long it lasts though, I'll probably end up adding to my collection of breeds again ;)

Feathered Gold: absolutely!

i've got quite a few flaxens (and flaxen carriers) in my herd as well.
i plan on putting together a list of lines/colors and a breeding plan for my older ones soon. I've also got a bunch of youngsters that i need to pair up :)
