Gypsy Vanner Owners' Survey!

#75558 Posted on 2016-11-13 07:17:52

Hi everyone! I have a survey for Gypsy Vanner owners. I am starting a Gypsy barn and will be selling horses, so I'd like to know what you guys like. Let me start with the survey questions.

1) What colors do you prefer to have on your Gypsy Vanners?
2) Are there any markings you like to have?
3) Is there a color/making mix you like most?
4) Are stats important to you?
5) If you are buying a horse, what is the minimal stat amount you will buy?
6) Is conformation important to you?
7) What do you first look for when looking at a horse?
8) Do you prefer blue eyes over brown?
9) What specialty do you want your Gypsies in?
10) Anything else?

That's it for the survey. I'd appreciate your answers. Feel free to look at my horses. :)

I'm not a gypsy breeder/massive owner, But I do like to have a couple gypsies around to admire c:

1) What colors do you prefer to have on your Gypsy Vanners?
Brown Dun, Cremello, Dunalino, Moreno**** (Literally would kill for one), Perlino, Wild Bay

2) Are there any markings you like to have?
Depends on color, personally. But usually I go for solid/No Markings

3) Is there a color/marking mix you like most?
Solid Perlino, Solid Wild Bay, Solid Moreno. Roan Sabino Buckskin

4) Are stats important to you?
Kindof. I mean, I'd prefer good stats, but price and color are what are important to me.

5) If you are buying a horse, what is the minimal stat amount you will buy?
I try to stay over 200, but not a deal breaker.

6) Is conformation important to you?
Not something I look for, but I will pay more for it.

7) What do you first look for when looking at a horse?
Color.

8) Do you prefer blue eyes over brown?
Depending on Color.

9) What specialty do you want your Gypsies in?
For no reason other than I like it, Jumping. If not then Dressage, or driving.

10) Anything else?
I own only a couple gypsies on all my accounts, but if I can be of any assistance then feel free to message me c:

Great idea! I'm always on the look out for good GV to add new blood to my herd. I'm happy to fill out your survey.

1) What colors do you prefer to have on your Gypsy Vanners? Red Dun, Chestnut, or Black

2) Are there any markings you like to have? I'm fine with any marking or solids.

3) Is there a color/marking mix you like most? My Candy (#528763) has my fav mix.

4) Are stats important to you? Stats are most important to me - more than confo or color.

5) If you are buying a horse, what is the minimal stat amount you will buy? I don't really have a minimum. Normally when I'm buying a horse I'm trying to find a mate for a new foal of mine so I look for whatever stats match my foal.

6) Is conformation important to you? Honestly, no, but it's becoming more important to other sellers/buyers so I do need to be aware of confo more now.

7) What do you first look for when looking at a horse? I look to see if age & stats match my needs.

8) Do you prefer blue eyes over brown? No. They're both lovely.

9) What specialty do you want your Gypsies in? Most of my GV are Driving but if a horse is a perfect match for my need and isn't driving I'll still buy it.

10) Anything else? I prefer a horse to have not been bred more than say 5 times. If too many of it's foals are in the game it makes it harder to avoid problems when looking for mates for breeding purposes.

Hope this helps!

1) What colors do you prefer to have on your Gypsy Vanners?
Black, seal brown, flaxen chestnut and cream dilutes.

2) Are there any markings you like to have?

Tobiano and without markings, mainly.

3) Is there a color/making mix you like most?
Nope.

4) Are stats important to you? 5) If you are buying a horse, what is the minimal stat amount you will buy?
It depends on what I'm going to use it for. I don't care for stats when buying horses to my color project. To my main line however, stats matter most. The minimal amount of stats depends on it's age and amount of generations.

6) Is conformation important to you?
To my main line, yes. Color project, nope.

7) What do you first look for when looking at a horse?

Specialty, color/genes, stats, confo and lines, - from what I check first to last.

8) Do you prefer blue eyes over brown?

As eye color depends on markings and color, I don't have any preference.

9) What specialty do you want your Gypsies in?

Driving. If the horse and it's line isn't all driving, I'm not buying.

10) Anything else?
I think you should breed for what you'd like, not for what the market wants. :) Breeders are looking for different things which means the market is always changing. Selling horses is often a slow process on here. If you have quality horses with high stats and a line that isn't overbred, you will always get them sold for a decent price no matter the color (except maybe greys), marking or conformation.

I'm pretty new to gypsy's myself (they are on my spare)

1) What colors do you prefer to have on your Gypsy Vanners?
Anything but bay, really. If I was to pick my favorites it would be seal brown, perlino, dunalino, and basically and dun or cream gened horse.
2) Are there any markings you like to have?
solid, roan, and maybe overo.
3) Is there a color/making mix you like most?
Not really. One of my favorite colors with roan I guess.
4) Are stats important to you?
most definetly
5) If you are buying a horse, what is the minimal stat amount you will buy?
Depends on how mulch linage is on the horse, and how old it is.
6) Is conformation important to you? Yes. I prefer to keep it at least over 55, but will go lower for rare colors, patterns, ect.
7) What do you first look for when looking at a horse?
pattern
8) Do you prefer blue eyes over brown?
I mean, I like blue eyes more, but it's not a factor in getting a horse for me.
9) What specialty do you want your Gypsies in?
Driving
10) Anything else? It will be nice to see another new gypsy vanner breeder out there.

1) What colors do you prefer to have on your Gypsy Vanners?
Cream dilutes, Browns, Wild bays, Flaxen.

2) Are there any markings you like to have?
I personally like splash and sabino splash together, I also like double rabicanos and pangare on chestnuts (also known as sorrel).

3) Is there a color/marking mix you like most?
Not really, I like a lot of combos.

4) Are stats important to you?
Extremely. I'm a stat breeder first and foremost.

5) If you are buying a horse, what is the minimal stat amount you will buy?
Depends on age and generation. 500 for a non-foundation before 10 and 300+ for a foundation below 15. As long as there's time for a foundation to hit 500+ stats.

6) Is conformation important to you?
Not especially but it's something I factor in when looking between two similar horses.

7) What do you first look for when looking at a horse?
Stats, not necessarily the highest but decent for their age and pedigree. Then I check pedigrees.

8) Do you prefer blue eyes over brown?
Not really. The blue eyes on EV aren't genetically inherited, they're just a result of the white face and double splash/sabino markings on the game.

9) What specialty do you want your Gypsies in?
I breed Driving Gypsies.

10) Anything else?
Agree with Dratini. Though I'm always open to buying decently started foundies and second generation foals. I notice rare colours with decent stats will net more value to a horse, especially if it's carrying pangare.

1) What colors do you prefer to have on your Gypsy Vanners?

- Many colors; though I love the solids mostly. No markings whatsoever, no matter what color the horse is. I have a rainbow of Gypsy's and as long as I can breed them together and get some other color I don't always have. I'm slowly learning to understand the genotypes and it's paying off. :)

2) Are there any markings you like to have?

-Any that aren't the common markings, tobiano mainly.

3) Is there a color/making mix you like most?

-I love the double dilutes RbRb, SbSb, RnRn, and SpSp markings with any color mostly at the moment. My boys Acid Rain, Crest, Smoky Love, and girl Missing You are my favorites at the moment in my herd with their colors and markings mixture.

4) Are stats important to you?

-VERY. Though I've lessened up on my restrictions, because of my wanting to breed conformation, and color into my herd.

5) If you are buying a horse, what is the minimal stat amount you will buy?

Generally, I went by the normal, 300+ for foundations, and 500+ for lined horses; though now I kinda have become more lenient recently, and have bought some horses with fairly short pedigrees that I can't find anywhere else on the game.

6) Is conformation important to you?

-Oh yes....... In the past six months, I've upped my minimum conformation for store horses up to 55 or higher, and for lined horses; 60+. I only allow a horse with less than 55 if it's a rare color and/or exceptional stats for its age.

7) What do you first look for when looking at a horse?

-Stats, conformation, color, and pedigree. The pedigree is only for if I find I have several foals related in some way; which isn't often. Right now, I'm trying not to buy anymore horses, though it's proving more difficult at the moment, and I'm trying to clear out my older horses to lock their foals to work with after all my older pairs have died. :(

8) Do you prefer blue eyes over brown?

-Don't matter to me. Like either one.

9) What specialty do you want your Gypsies in?

-Driving firmly. I have a few in Dressage, but when I get the chance, will change their specialty to Driving.

10) Anything else?

-Determined to breed a 700+ stated baby from one of my pairs; though I think my Arabians may be the first breed to do that!

1) What colours do you prefer to have on your Gypsy Vanners?
I prefer any colour that is not overly common, but the rarer the better :3 I don't like greys though

2) Are there any markings you like to have?
I love overo and tovero, and also pangare on chestnut based horses

3) Is there a colour/marking mix you like most?
I like markings better when they are on a darker coloured horse, as they stand out more, such as a seal brown tovero

4) Are stats important to you?
Yes

5) If you are buying a horse, what is the minimal stat amount you will buy?
Depends on the age of the horse and if it is a 2nd gen or has a long line, but most of the time I wouldn't go under 200-300 stats, even for a 0 year old foal, but it does depend on colour, confo and markings too

6) Is conformation important to you?
Yes, I try to breed horses with very high conformation

7) What do you first look for when looking at a horse?
It depends what i'm after at the time, but usually, I look at the horses for sale with the highest stats first, then I would look at conformation, then colour last

8) Do you prefer blue eyes over brown?
I love blue eyes, but I honestly don't care much what their eye colour is

9) What specialty do you want your Gypsies in?
Dressage

1) What colors do you prefer to have on your Gypsy Vanners?
Brown and wild bay are the rarest, and therefore valuable to me. For sheer aesthetics, and so flaxen and pangare can show, I also like chestnut-based colors. Black is next on my list, and bay at the bottom, though it can be pretty paired with cream dilutions.
2) Are there any markings you like to have?
Frame overo and splash are my favorite. I also like splash paired with sabino a lot. Homozygous tobiano and sabino are nice, but heterozygous tobiano is kind of boring, and I don't like heterozygous sabino. Roans are nice, and so are rabicanos.
3) Is there a color/making mix you like most?
Chestnut bases with flaxen and/or pangare are my favorite. Splash plus sabino is a real stunner.
4) Are stats important to you?
Extremely so, but I will buy a lower stat horse if it has a rare color or pattern or amazing conformation.
5) If you are buying a horse, what is the minimal stat amount you will buy?
If the horse is young, I don't have a minimum amount, because I can easily raise the stats on a young horse that is otherwise desirable. I am more concerned that the horse keeps its stat gains within strength and endurance.
6) Is conformation important to you?
It is, and will continue to become more important to me as I advance in my breeding program.
7) What do you first look for when looking at a horse?
Spread of stats. Unless the horse has something very rare and desirable in color, or a stunning conformation, I will not buy a horse that has high stats outside of strength and endurance.
8) Do you prefer blue eyes over brown?
I like the variation.
9) What specialty do you want your Gypsies in?
Driving
10) Anything else?
Not really.

1) What colors do you prefer to have on your Gypsy Vanners?
Flaxen anything, especially- Dunalino, red dun, chestnut. ..also like my wild bays and browns

2) Are there any markings you like to have?
I prefer solids but do also like T+, overo, Spsp or SpSp and SbSb.
I like pangare, Roan and rabicano in the mix as well

3) Is there a color/making mix you like most?
Dunalino with ff PP

4) Are stats important to you?
Extremely. However, I will buy a horse with less than desireable stats if they have a specific colour I want, or their stat spread is outstanding.

5) If you are buying a horse, what is the minimal stat amount you will buy?
Lined horses 500 min. ..however each horse is judged case by case

6) Is conformation important to you?
Sonewhat,yes..I've acquired 2 outside gypsy herds, the one herd having horses with confos above 90...so will gradually be working on breeding the higher confo into my horses

7) What do you first look for when looking at a horse?
Stats, stat spead, colour, lines, confo

8) Do you prefer blue eyes over brown?
Doesn't matter, the blue eyes are just associated with the bald faces

9) What specialty do you want your Gypsies in?
Driving, and I have a couple of jumping gypsies who, although they have lower stats, have a great stat spread and amazing colour
10) Anything else?

1. What colors do you prefer to have on your Gypsy Vanners?
I like all colors, really. The only color I try to stay away from is Bay, but I try to stay away from Bay in all breeds. I do, however, breed for modifiers such as flaxen, roan, and dun.
2. Are there any markings you like to have?
I love to have overo on my Gypsies. I also love homozygous tobianos, rabicanos, and roans. Pangare is pretty awesome, too! I also try for bald faces c:
3. Is there a color/making mix you like most?
I really like the Seal Brown Roans and Dunalinos. I also love the red dun flaxens.
4. Are stats important to you?
Yes, across all breeds.
5. If you are buying a horse, what is the minimal stat amount you will buy?
Depends on the ages. If it's a yearling or a two year old, I don't care what the stats are because you can easily have an 800+ stat horse on your hands if it's 100 stats with the new ways to gain stats since the recode. If it's 4-6 I'd like it to have 250-350 stats. If older than that, I'm looking for a good showing foundation or a lined horse with high stats.
6. Is conformation important to you?
Yes, but since the percentages are a little new to the game and we're all still figuring them out, I'm trying to be lenient enough to have diverse stock. I shoot for 55% or higher.
7. What do you first look for when looking at a horse?
Stats, color, then conformation. If I'm being super picky, # of foal, pedigree, money earned in shows, and show placings.
8. Do you prefer blue eyes over brown?
Yes. I love bald faces.
9. What specialty do you want your Gypsies in?
Driving. The resell market is most popular for a driving-based Gypsy Vanner.
10. Anything else?
Welcome to the Gypsy breeding club ~ I hope you have the best of luck! I'd be happy to breed some custom foals for you, if you were interested!
