*skip to bottom if you want to just see pictures* Hey folks! Long time no chat on the horse scene. I didn't really want to post anything until I knew we were getting a little closer to a confirmed thing, and we're about as close as we can get. About a month ago, I sold Fawkes. Was a very heart breaking decision, but I kept getting this feeling she should be a kid's horse. She's got a heart of gold, super forgiving, and just adores them. Pair that with my really thinking on wanting to complete a lifelong dream of mine and not wanting to do it when I was 40 and only able to afford one horse, and then at the time we had a major car repair bill come up that the extra money at the time wouldn't have been a bad thing. Anyhow, I casually messaged a few people. Two said she didn't suit what they wanted and wouldn't make the 4 hour drive to meet her (yay for living in the boondocks, lol) and finally someone was willing to take a chance and come look at her. We talked for most of the night before they left, and it sounded like a pretty done deal. When they showed up with their trailer, I knew she was sold. Most people around here don't bring a trailer unless they're seriously interested. So we pulled her out and I showed them a few things and then they hopped on and they just fell in love with her. So she is now a 9 year old girl's horse and the girl just adores her. Things are going pretty well for them, I was just told the girl needs to learn to be a smidge more firm with Fawkes. But they both look happy as can be, and that's all I could ask for. And now that brings me to my lifelong dream and what I am talking about now. For years and years and years I've always wanted to "raise my own". More from a weanling point than breeding my own as I didn't want to deal with breeding/the care of the mare and all that jazz. It was originally my plan to break the horse out on my own, but I've since admitted I don't have the skills nor the want to do that anymore. They will now be sent out for 90 days of training. Though I've talked to a good friend of mine, and we've considered if the horse is calm/laid back enough we might put the first few rides on ourselves with her riding (She's much braver than I am lol). Anyways, me being the impatient person I am, started looking into in-utero options. It's uncommon (at least in my area) to find them for stock horse types, but I found a few that did offer it. The only reason I'm willing to do this is because I know what colors I don't want (which is basically chestnuts, I need a break from the red heads lol), the general bloodlines/discipline I'd like, and I'm not opposed to either a colt or filly. The first one I was going to do was bred up the wazoo for cows/roping/things like that and was guaranteed a black or bay. Before settling for that one, I decided to look into a few other options. And then I found pretty much the best option I'll ever get. It's a breeder I've eyed babies from before, but always thought they weren't an option because they are so far away. Turns out they come to a sale every year about 4 hours from me, cutting the distance in half. So that cut out the worry about the distance. She offered me the chance to buy in utero, but I don't "settle" on just one mare, I get to wait until the five mares in my price range foal and then I get two weeks afte the last foal to make my pick. I'm guaranteed a black/bay based foal and tobiano markings. I've got the chance to get dun, cream, and roan as well depending on each mare bred to. Wasn't really after a Paint this go around, but was a deal that I didn't want to pass up on and don't mind a paint at all. Anyhow, I'll go ahead and share some pictures of the stud, mares, and this year's foal crop. Stud Kommacs Cash Mares and Foals Coosa Classic Gold 5 Panel NN Buckberrys N Creme Bueno Surprise Redigo Easy TTT Awesom Elegance*Is 6 Panel NN* In terms of colors, I'm really growing fond of the Grullo Tobiano that the last mare produced. So fingers crossed she throws a nicely marked Grullo Tobiano filly for me. Or if Redigo Easy will throw a blue roan tobiano, but unsure of her AA status. But honestly anything these guys produce will be up my alley color wise. Anyways, figured I'd spam you with some cute images to break up such a text heavy post xD
