Registered Horses - Pro/Cons

#75205 Posted on 2016-11-10 09:09:29

Hey there EV! Since the reintroduction of breed clubs into the new version of Equiverse, the ability to register your stock according to club requirements has been a topic I haven't yet seen discussed in too much detail.

So, I would like to know your thoughts on it. Do you value a horse that's registered over a horse that isn't? What benefits are there to registering stock? What are the cons to registering stock? Do you like the price of registration? Do you like that the regulations fluctuate depending on difference club presidencies?

I personally haven't registered most of my stock, though the potential to makes me pretty excited about it, though I'm not sure why. I think I'll be joining quite a bit of breed clubs today to register my stock, just to give them that little "boost"!

I have most of my stock registered with their appropriate clubs; but I'm not sure to what extent people look at the registration when purchasing horses.

There are varying levels of requirement for registration based on the breed, most have a stat requirement and conformation requirements. However some of the clubs have no requires except that a horse be the correct breed. I haven't seen too much fluctuation in the requirements except with a few clubs. One of the biggest advantages to having a club registered horse is that it will automatically appear in the Sale Book when you list the horse for sell (which is another place to advertise that your horse is available for sell).

As the current president of the QH club I am seriously considering completely changing the registration requirements (they would be more inclusive in my new way of handling it); however I'm working out the details still and debating if it should even be done.

I try to register as many of my 3 breeds that meet the requirements for their clubs. I don't know if others care about if my horses are registered but I like having them registered. I'm not a huge fan of sudden requirement changes as presidents change. In one of the clubs I'm a member of there was no confo requirement for a long time. One day I tried to register horses and they were rejected and I wasn't sure why. They were all high stat (higher than what was required) new foals. I had to go figure out that a confo requirement had been added. Now half of my horses in that breed can't be registered because of the confo requirement. Some are off by .01 of a point. Very frustrating.

Registration plays no role on if I'll buy a horse or not. Given that registries are just for "looks", there's no benefit to registering your horses.

i did register my horses when it was first available, but i no longer do.

there's no incentive to register, so i'd rather not waste my money.

Any horses I sell meet the registration guidelines of their breed clubs (because i have stricter guidelines for my own red horses than the registries do), so if it's that important to the new owners they can register them.

Since the requirements are different for each breed and can change with a new president I don't pay attention to it.

I'm a member, but don't register horses. There's no benefit, so I don't see the point.
