Arabians as ghost horses!

#73178 Posted on 2016-10-24 11:03:09

I'm a huge fan of Halloween! Lately, I've been wanting again to try to breed horses that had that feel but I didn't want them the traditional all white or all black that is typical of a spooky horse.

That left "pumpkin" color or chestnut. Then I read the thread about Flaxen Arabians and saw the example given and I thought "That's it! That's the shade of chestnut that would work and the whiteness of the flaxen was perfect since some can have a blonde tinge."

Also the Arabians stance give it that unfettered and wild feel ghostly horses are said to have.

So I scraped together enough funds to buy credits for a small customized herd of 3 Arabians. I've started breeding since I couldn't wait to build up their stats. Confirmation should remain good. Fingers are crossed.

Sounds like a fun project. I adore flaxen and the challenge of breeding for flaxeny foals.

If you want to keep flaxen in your lines as long as possible you might want to consider breeding like this:

Flaxen Chestnut x Chestnut = Ff babies (carry flaxen but don't show it).

Ff babies x Ff babies = 25% ff babies, 50% Ff babies, 25% FF babies
or
Ff babies x Flaxen Chestnuts = 50% ff babies and 50% Ff babies.

If you breed your flaxen stallion to both of your flaxen mares then you will not be able to breed their foals together; though you will be guaranteed little flaxeny foals. You can also breed them together and sell/trade the foals to other flaxen breeders then do what I outlined above to keep your personal lines going. Or you can breed your flaxen foals to flaxen mares/stallions offered up for public breeding by other members (though flaxen carrying horses can run very high stud/brood fees depending on the breed and some have high inbreeding from the old EV where people from were trying to keep the flaxen in their lines).

Anyway just some random advice from someone who has a lot of game experience with flaxen breeding; feel free to take it or leave it ;) or to PM me if you have any questions.

I appreciate all the advice I can get!

I must be on the right track with this. On the third try the game gave me a bay Arabian stallion with all good in the conformation. All I had to do was switch him to chestnut. : )

Normally the best I get is a horse with two poor conformations.
