*to read name rules skip to the bottom* GUY'S I'M SO EXCITED. So to start of, many of you know that my horse, Lucy, is permanently lame and only to be used as a pasture mate or light, light riding because of cutting at a young age, EPM, etc etc. ANYWAYYYYYY. My parents decided that it's a good idea to start looking for another horse as I can't ride my aunts forever, and they know how much it makes me happy to ride and so they figured it's best to get a nice, sound, broke horse. A friend of the family's daughter is selling one, however the horse is much too "proper" for me, meaning he's a top-end show horse and is trained in things I don't know or would like to do. Also, another gal was looking at him and she had a better chance of getting him since he would be staying at the stable he's been at for nearly his whole life, and her priorities are different than mine. The horse also has never touched the woods.. So there's that too. "LET'S GET TO THE POINT PISTOL C'MON DUDE" I'M SORRY I'M EXCITED OKAY So after mentioning to my horse friends that I'm casually looking for another, they've been tagging me in hella (like 15) facebook posts of horses I may be interested in. AND THEN I GOT TAGGED IN AN AMAZING ONE. This lil' dude is absolutely adorable. He's a 10yo 15.2hh red dun (QH?) gelding that's broke to ride and DRIVE. He's such a cutie and he's 2.5 hours away from me, but he's worth the drive. He's mainly a trail horse, however I believe he'd be a good pleasure show horse (maybe maybe barrel horse) as well. I'm really excited, I just gotta set up a date with his owner and go see him. He also has a 90 day "return deal" if you'd like to say; meaning if I don't like him within 3 months, he will go back to the prior owner with a full refund- another plus! *not my pictures* But he seems absolutely stunning n I'm really, really pumped to go check him out. If I do get him, he'll get plenty of room (40+ acres) of woods and pasture to roam with 4 other horses, free range hay, daily grain/supplements, exercise, regular vet and farrier appointments, etc. etc. He will be going to a great home, no worries. [s]Now, a question. Since he is 2.5 hours from me, do you believe I should bring a trailer when looking at him to avoid driving out there twice if I do like him? LOOKING FOR NAMES!: This guy's name Mark, which I honestly don't like at all lol. He's grade so he doesn't have a registered name either. So I'm looking for names that I like, and I'll choose one after I go check him out to see what suits him. I'd like to stay with 'M' names however it's not required. I like simple yet unique names, but again it's not required. Nothing unoriginal like 'cookie or brownie.' Names I'm looking at now: - Monty - Red Names from members: - Tanner - Trout - Cash - Mace - Beignet UPDATE: Mark has been sold... I'm actually really sad considering we had a date to go see and ride him and everything and I was prepared to bring another horse home. I'll find another one, hopefully. And I'll let you guys know about it, no worries. Maybe we can find another one from the dealer, since he's a good horseman and has a stunning reputation, as well as 100+ horses. ;-; Thanks in advance! Last edited on 2016-10-24 at 10:57:59 by Pistol

It's really not advisable to use the forums for real-life advice . . . any questions would be best addressed to the individuals within the situation, rather than people online.

@River: My bad. I've asked others in the situation and they don't really know, and I figured some other members have gone through the same thing. Sorry.

I would suggest requesting a video of him moving out (preferably with someone riding him) so that you can see if he is sound or not and how he behaves under saddle before spending the time to go see him in person. It would also be a good idea to request some proper confo pics just to make sure there aren't any obvious problems that he might have and also give you an idea of how comfy he will be to ride.

Then I agree, taking a trailer is the best decision. I just wish you'd have time to get a vet check. Speaking from experience, a friend of mine purchased a cheap horse who had a severe case of tying up (a muscle disorder that caused the horse to have temporarily paralysis, at one point the horse collapsed suddenly on top of her while she was riding on the trail alone). It sounds like you're pretty sensible, but situations like this can happen, unfortunately. If an ad seems too good to be true, it probably is.

Of course! If I could link the video I would, however it's on Facebook and so the link isn't really "grab-able" if you know what I mean.
