Talking About My Horses

#68182 Posted on 2016-09-18 17:24:21

Just thought I'd talk about some of my horses IRL here.

First off, is one of my newest additions, a stud named Louie. He came with an application to register him, but I haven't sent them off as they are for him to be an Appy, but he has none of the markers for an Appy. Could be because only his parents and grandparents were registered as Appys, The rest of his bloodlines is all QH, and he looks more like a QH. Louie is just one of them horses that will test your patience, and he's definitely pushed my buttons. When you first go to mess with him, you either get him with a brain OR you get him without a brain. I know that sounds weird, but it's how I see him, and he can switch between the two in a heartbeat. When Louie has a brain, working with him is very easy. He's a smart horse and picks up on things fairly quickly. However, when his brain is gone, it's like working with a brick wall. I know him being a stud is the reason why he loses his thinking capabilities. I plan on gelding him in November, when the weather is nicer and fewer flies to contend with. Another part of his problem, was lack of ground work and manners. His previous owners knew very little about horses and were honestly scared of him. They didn't even want to be in the same pasture as him. When I first got him home, he was a nightmare to even walk. He wanted to run you over and he had a nasty habit of striking out with his front foot at random. He nearly caught me several times with that random hoof striking, but after the work I've put on him, he rarely does it. I've had him for a little over a month now, and I've made decent progress with his groundwork and manners. Louie is even picking up on certain voice commands. He still has moments that make me want to pull my hair out, but then the next few minutes, he's back to using his brain. I do enjoy the challenge that he is, and I can't wait to start working him under saddle. I was told that he was broke to ride, but I haven't introduced a saddle yet. I don't feel we're at a point where a saddle needs to be introduced.

My friend just bought a ThoroughbredxAppy, and due to her lineage she is registered as Appy and she doesn't look like an Appy either. xD But she's definitely a stunner. I'd register him regardless of if he has the markings or not.

And I love love love his markings. Would love a good chromey black horse.

I love chrome on a horse, too. 4 out of my 6 horses have chrome...lol. I was looking for a black with 4 high socks and a blaze, and he found his way to me. Wish he had a little more white on his face, but he's handsome either way. I've been debating on breeding one of my mares, but haven't decided. If I knew I could get her markings with his color{black}, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Well, Mr. Louie decided living by himself just wasn't acceptable. He broke out of his pasture and into the pasture with my mares and gelding. My mom came in and told me my horses were out and I thought they were all out, but it was just my TWH mare. As we caught her, we noticed Louie was not running the fence as usual. I put her up and here he comes from behind a hay bale. I was, and still am, freaking out because I have no clue how long he was in there. Really hoping no one was bred. I was then concerned for my gelding because Louie does NOT like other boys. I watched as Louie was coming to me and he nickered to one of the mares, and my gelding[Flash] was quick to put himself between Louie and the mares. Flash has always had a jealous streak and I'm thinking he kept Louie away from the mares, because all Flash had to do was give Louie a look, and Louie got out of the way. Louie has some scuffs on him, but nothing serious. He was definitely happy t be away from Flash, and I think his pride was damaged.
