Sabino Genetics?

#64564 Posted on 2016-08-31 04:48:26

So, I finally got my opportunity to start my sabino Clydesdale project. I read through the genetics guide, thought I had it all down. Nope. I started breeding and I'm not getting this at all. >.<

I have an Sb+ mare (Displays sabino), bred her to an Sbsb (Doesn't display sabino, but I thought it should?) and the foal came out ++ (I'm assuming because there's no Sb genes at all.)
Also, I have an Sbsb mare, which like I said above, I thought should be displaying sabino but doesn't display it at all..

I just need help figuring out how this sabino mess works >.

I think this may be more of a bug. Sbsb horses should still display sabino because they are still sabino horses. Your solid foal, however, doesn't have any display of a sabino gene (period), unless I completely skipped over it. So I think this may be more of a bug than anything.

Edit: And actually, now that I looked under horse search, sbsb isn't even a gene. The only sabino genes I saw were Sb+ (which I'm assuming is heterozygous) and SbSb which would be homozygous.

The Sbsb is a bug. It should be Sb+. Sabino is only one possibility you can get on the KIT gene. Tobiano and Roan are also possibilities, as well as unpatterned (+). Every horse has two and only two KIT slots, which can be filled with any of the options I mentioned. The "+" symbol is used instead of the lowercase sb, t, or rn because it is such a complex gene with so many options. The symbol "+" can be interpreted to mean "sb/t/rn" all combined into one. When you find a horse that has an "sb" (or a t, or an rn) in the genotype, the program doesn't know what to do with it, expecting the "+", so it defaults to the no-pattern art for the horse.

Unfortunately, it is known that the KIT gene is pretty buggy on this game. Abbey is busy with her wedding, so she hasn't gotten around to fixing it yet. I'm sure she will eventually, when she has more time.

I thought SbSb meant sabino and Sb+ meant sabino carrying non sabino?

Sabino
A white pattern with roaned or feathered edges, typically moving horizontally over the body. It is an incomplete dominant gene, so homozygous sabino horses will have more white on their bodies.

SbSb sabino, Sb+ sabino carrying non-sabino, ++ non-sabino.

Yes, That's correct, but for some reason the bug throws out 'Sbsb' instead of Sb+,

And also I have clyds that have no sabino genetics AT ALL. There's not of any of them.

Well breeding sabino in clydesdales in trial and error. I bred a bay mare with no sabino to a sabino stallion and got a sabino foal.
