Quick genetics question....

#60007 Posted on 2016-08-09 13:02:02

I had a GV foal born today that has it's color is listed as gray but it looks chestnut. I've had other horses that were listed as gray but looked bay. They've turned white. I've never had this gray/chestnut combo happen before so what I'm wondering is if my chestnut will turn white also. Here's the geno:

ee Aa Gg crcr dd chch FF zz pp stysty rbrb Sb+ oo spsp lplp patn1patn1 patn2patn2

I know Vos created a very detailed and very helpful geno post but to be honest I still don't exactly grasp the gray gene part of it. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Horses that are gray now gray out with age...

ie. the older the horse, the grayer it is until it is fully white

3 year old example - 💜 {zz} Perry's Bar {51.55} (#468863)
8 year old example - Romana (#434861)
deceased example - r. Baryonyx (#393268)

That's what I was thinking but second guessed myself. Plus the horse looking chestnut made me less confident in my belief. Thanks so much, kimtia!
