What do you think...

#59407 Posted on 2016-08-07 01:32:04

I'm trying to figure out which of my TWH stallions I will be incorporating into my foundation lines and which ones I won't. I have some fairly nice little stallions that unfortunately won't be getting woven into my lines, and therefor, will be used as public studs. Here's what I'm thinking: I want to allow all stallions I'm not using to be available to the public once they reach an age/stat number I feel appropriate and am going to make it so that no stallion can be allowed more than 5 foals each. What I'm thinking of doing after that is gelding them and either keeping them as riding school horses or giving them to a rescue/gelding rescue. How would you feel if you had a gelding in your horse's pedigrees? Even though these stallions won't be in my personal lines, I still want to keep their foals nicely pedigreed and don't want the studs to end up in the wrong hands or God forbid something goes wrong and are get sold and end up with over, psht I don't know, 30 foals, hence why I wish to geld them. I just want to know if you would ever consider breeding to a stallion knowing you would have a gelding in a foal's pedigree, what does everyone think about that?

I'm fine with having geldings in my horses pedigrees. I'm more bothered about how many times they are bred and whether they have 'deceased' pedigrees.

having geldings in pedigrees doesn't bother me.
then again, a horse having 50 offspring doesn't matter to me either :)

Geldings don't bother me at all. What does bother me is inbred, deceased, and uneven breeding in lines. And as someone above said, I don't bother with overbred stallions.

@Merk- "uneven breeding in lines" Does that mean breeding a 4th gen to a 2nd gen, a foundation to a 5th gen, etc.?

Yep ducky. I'm a little bit OCD lol...and that has always bothered me in sim games. I like symmetrical lines, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder...I may not like it but others don't care one bit.

I'm glad geldings don't bother anyone. This way I can absolutely be sure that my stallions won't end up in someone's hands who will keep them marketed as stud and they won't end up with like, 30 foals.
