Advice on Pairings?

#57626 Posted on 2016-07-30 10:48:53

So I'm in the process of pairing my 66 clyde foals with their future mates. 32 of those pairings are complete and are in this division. These are the foals which are going to be my future lines, so I'm satisfied with those pairings. I will probably change one pairing but I'm still debating whether to do it or not.

However I now have 36 foals (their siblings and the extra foals I'm not using for my lines) leftover in my division The Outcasts. These horses aren't bad in any way; but they're not as good as their sibling which was chosen to be part of my main line of Clydes so now they are left-overs.

I'm not sure what to do with them.
-Should I try selling them? My clydes are all Endurance trained which isn't a popular specialty for Clydesdales so I don't think there is a market for them. But maybe I could help someone get started in Endurance Clydes?
-Should I buy enough store horses to pair with them all? This is an option but is kinda crazy because it would mean adding another 32 horses onto my already overflowing account.
-Should I pair them all independent of their siblings pairings and have two completely separate lines of Clydes? Right now I'm leaning toward this option, however it would mean that in the future foals from one line couldn't be moved to the other line.
-Should I pair them so that they are in pairs that reflect their siblings and use loki's daggers to make the genders match? This would be very expensive for me as it would require roughly 10 loki's daggers to do, I could spread the cost over the next 20 weeks and do it, but I'm not 100% sold on this idea. The bonus of this idea is that foals from one line could be "swapped" later to make my main line better if needed.

So what would you do, or what do you do, in a situation like this one? I'm open to other ideas that I didn't include so feel free to post those ideas.

Personally I would attempt to sell them first, but I would pair them up so that they're separate from the main line but have the potential for future foals to be added into the lines if you can't sell them on. If they were driving Clydes I'd have snatched them up.

I always worry I'm going to meet too much similarity with my lines (because I sell the 19 year breeding foals off to other people), hence why I cross the pairs over (a to b, b to c, etc) for the first breeding and do proper pairs for the last breeding to have more diverse pedigrees.

Thanks for the input maple. I'm really leaning towards pairing them up and creating a second line of clydes, which should be interesting.

im not sure what your main goal with the main line you're keeping, but you could use the sibling line to work toward a different goal. so if you're focusing on stats with the first line, perhaps pair the second line up to create the best conformation or color. I know Clydes don't have a ton of color options so I'd lean toward conformation if you're not doing that with your main line.

My main line is conformation and color, then last stats (cause I already accidentally messed up the stats on the parents). That is a neat idea though, I might use the second line to focus on color because they'll naturally have lower conformation than my main line.
