are you using photo shop?

have you installed the appropriate drivers for the tablet?

Did you follow the directions that came with it to install it?

Tablets can be tricky to set up the first time, particularly if you've never had one before. I recently had to install a new tablet and it took me a couple of hours to get the pressure working/to fine tune it even with my prior tablet knowledge.

I haven't used a wacom brand before but I have run into similar problems with other tablets. Basically, make sure you've installed it correctly.

Uninstall any previous tablet drivers you have, close any art programs and leave the tablet unplugged. Tablets are VERY finicky and will conflict with with other drivers/plugins, and I know wacom has a looooong history of being finicky.

If your tablet came with a cd, use the cd to install it. Do not plug the tablet in unless it asks you to (some will some won't). If it doesn't have a cd just skip to next step.

Once you've installed the cd (or not) go to the makers website, find the drivers for your make of tablet and install the newest up to date driver for your OS. You can usually find the drivers by going to help/support or downloads and inputting the item number.

You should be asked to restart your computer for changes to take effect, do it.

You can plug your tablet in at this point, if the pen is registering great, if not you may need to open your driver settings (I don't know what the wacom is called (I think it's Wacom Tablet Properties or something) but mine is just PenTabletDriver) if it doesn't open by clicking on it you may have to run it in admin mode.

I can't remember exactly what settings there are but you should find a "default settings" button and some pressure testing stuff. There should also be a TabletPC Support checkbox, if it's checked try unchecking it. Often it causes more problems than good (it made mine spazz out lol). If it works in there great.

Open your art program and try it. If it doesn't work them you probably haven't set it up in your program, sometimes it's automatic and sometimes it's not.

I don't know what art program you're using so I can't help here yet lol. It may also be that pen pressure isn't supported in the program, you never know.

The cracked version of Photoshop I shared doesn't always register the pen pressure with Wacoms :'D the SAI does though.
