Teeny question about genetics

#54088 Posted on 2016-07-18 19:56:13

I've been calculating my foal's color outcomes between my stallion, Belle's Goldbar and my mares. Some of the outcomes I was given from https://www.animalgenetics.us/Equine/CCalculator1.asp have said "bay dun", which I know is a legit color, and I know some of the genetics and colors on Equiverse are a tiny bit modified, so I would like to know what color bay dun would be on Equiverse. I'm sure it's either dunkskin or classic dun, but I don't know which.

*edit*
Another question. How can I test the outcome of foals with an Ivory Gold Champagne Dun stallion x all my mares? The linked calculator above doesn't have his color as an option so I don't know the most accurate way to test him.

Bay + Dun on EV is a Classic Dun; a Dunskin is Bay + Single Cream + Dun (or a Dun Buckskin).

For Ivory Gold Champagne Dun use Gold Cream Champagne Dun (in your color calculator) that should equate to the EV color name. *or close to it*

Thank you! I had a feeling it was classic dun. And also thank you for the 'color translation'.

for the first question, it would be classic dun.
dunskin is a classic dun + a cream gene (aka buckskin + dun)

the second is a bit more complicated because you'd have to look at all the mares individually and do the calculations by hand.

Kahzie - Well, Aglet said to use Gold Cream Champagne Dun, BUT I also do have a stallion that is that color, so would the outcomes be the same? Or would I really need to do them all by hand...

I think the other stallion your referring to is this dude?, if so then he doesn't have cream which is a Gold Champagne Dun on your coat calculator and this game.

Ivory is used on this game rather than cream for the coat color you first mentioned.

*You can do them by hand, but I looked at the stallion I think you're referring to and Gold Cream Champagne Dun should work.

I would rather not do them by hand, lol. And yes! That's him. I now realize he doesn't have cream, so I will try using that color. What about horses though that ARE gold cream champagne dun on the game? How would that work? Would both the golds and ivories just produce the same colors if bred to the same exact mare?

Gold Cream Champagne Dun doesn't exist on EV, instead Abbey chose to call them Ivory Gold Champagne Dun (both are valid color names, it just happens that your coat color calculator and Abbey chose to use different terms).

Sure no problem, I love playing around with genetics and learning more about them via websites like the coat color calculator you provided.

also this is the calculator I prefer to use as you get to select individual genes, rather than operating by color names which is confusing because color names aren't standardized.

I was looking for one like that! Thank you! I'm just beginning to learn about genetics, and the more I learn about them and the more they begin clicking in my head, the more I want to study them in college ;)
