Vane had been expecting it. The confrontation, the disagreement with his words. It was nothing new. Vane was very much the brash and harsh stallion that stood as a pariah among the rest of the herd. But he also had years of experience they did not. The cold, brutal nature of his personality came with more than just that. It came with years of skill in combat and magic. And while it would seem they had lost the magic he had not lost his skills in combat. They would not be something that fled him so easily. He was stubborn if nothing else. His jaw tensed as he listened to Adi. Generally, a smirk would have tugged at the former pirate’s features but in this moment it failed to steal across his face. Instead, he was silent as Bo allowed his defiance and protest be known.
The dun beast regarded him with the usual fierce glare, though there was little interest in his gaze. He knew well enough how a fight between them would end. At least in his own mind. “Tell me, Bo, did I ask to be followed?” The deep baritones held their usual rasp as he looked the other over before turning his mind to what was truly at stake. “I believe that is what I asked for is it not, Asha? To hear his plan before we throw ourselves at his hooves and let him decide our fate.” Without another word his head swung about to face Sevlen.
”Then yer goin’ to need me Sevlen.” He offered slowly. “This plan is all well and good, maybe it even makes some sense but outside of that yer skills in combat and knowledge of the world outside of these walls are lackin’. Not as much as the youth but a great deal in comparison to my own. Most of yeh have never lived in the world outside this cave. Magic cannot be yer only source of defense. Especially since we have not used it in so long. Real combat skills will be yerh best bet until yeh have mastered magic again. That is where yeh will need me… and Arronax, if he plans to come join us.” A smirk tugged at his lips now as he turned his large skull just enough to gesture for the metal beast to step into the light.
Arronax
He should have known. He supposed it was only a matter of time, in truth. Vane might not have been a friend but he spent more time with the former Captain that most did. Because of that, he knew enough to know he would not slip by unnoticed. At least not for long. Perhaps he had hoped his silence would keep him hidden. Maybe from the others, it would have. Vane was not so simple. Though he couldn’t be certain the others had not been aware of him either. A soft laugh, a brief huff of air slipped past his lips as he lifted his skull and stepped out of the darkness. He was a stallion coated in a mix of brass, bronze, copper and gold. A metal beast whose body was covered in this mixture. Beneath it all, he was much like any other equine here but it was clear with the coating he stood out. “Are you done tormenting these poor horses, Vane?”
The deep baritone flowed smooth from his lips as his shook his head slowly. The metal groaned in protest at the movement and his muscles objected to it. He would be appreciative when they could get out of this cave. Out of the cold dank air. Where the metal he wore would adjust and soften slightly to allow more movement. “As much as I do protest to Vane’s way of going about these objections I do admit he has a point. Magic cannot be your sole survival skill. There is far too much at stake and far too much out there to depend solely on magic you do not remember how to use or never have used before. I am far from as old as Vane but I have seen combat and I know what it takes.” He paused for a brief moment before continuing. Arronax was ever the voice of reason and today was not different.
"So if Sevlen would have it I would say he allow myself, and Vane to tag along. Allow us to teach you the skills you may not know and help sharpen the ones you do. If you wish to see this succeed we need to depend on each other, use each other to better ourselves and help each other where we can. So even though the former Captain will not admit it I will speak for us both. We wish to come along, if only to stop standing around doing nothing. We have become stagnant and that is never good for someone like me... and certainly not for a stallion like Vane.” The expression on his copper hued face was calm, relaxed, patient. Even in the face of the Captain tossing him an unamused glare that was more threat than anything else. “So what say you, Sevlen?”
