Someone to explain coding

Hi everyone! I've done a tiny bit of coding (mostly playing with my tumblr) and I was hoping to get some kind of explanation as to how coding generally works here on EV before attempting to do it myself. Anything will help, I'm sure. I'm not really looking for someone to teach me as much as someone to answer some questions.
