I don't even know :\

Not a lot of people at the barn know what's happening right now and I don't want to spread it around, but its depressing as hell.

There's a mare at my barn who has been at the vet since Tuesday morning... She has laminitis, caused by an infection that she somehow got. Apparently it was so bad they thought she was foundering at first. We're obviously all hoping she'll pull through somehow but from what I've heard so far it isn't looking good. She's 19 or 20 this year, but was completely healthy before this. In her youth she was winning Grand Prix classes against horses much bigger than her. They tried to retire her years ago but she was having none of it and refused to eat until she was being worked again, ha. Not really sure why I'm posting this... Its just really sad knowing that this is happening to a super sweet mare. I've known her for about four years, since I started riding with my current coach, and she's just like... always been there. You go to the barn, there she is. I went by her stall tonight, after all the others were turned in, and it was just so weird seeing it empty. Her breakfast hay was still in there from Tuesday morning and everything.

I dunno. Hug your horses a little tighter, guys :(

Founder is Laminitis. Hopefully the poor thing heals up. In addition to veterinary care, limiting grass intake is best for laminitic horses (which I'm assuming they're doing while she's at the vet anyway). Thankfully mine never foundered, but he had had some foot problems.

I will be sending positive energy to the sweetie.

Hm, okay... Cause I thought that too but I looked it up when this whole thing started (cause I originally couldn't remember what exactly occurs with laminitis), and apparently they're different? Laminitis can, but does not always, lead to founder. So that's why I referred to them as I did. And we've dealt with horses who have had laminitis before, but so far its been before their time with us. We know what to do and everything, but having to go through the whole process is just a little like O_O cause we obviously don't know what the final outcome will be yet.

Thanks though, I appreciate it c:
