Peppermint Treating

#45081 Posted on 2016-06-06 17:58:10

I am due to unlock and begin training my next generation of Arab babies within the next few weeks and I have been toying with the idea of how best to treat them to give them the best stats. Does anyone have any suggestions or pros and cons of regular treats vs. peppermints?

I always seem to have bad luck and get only one or two stars from peppermints and always in the areas that I don't want them. It might just be my bad luck but I was hoping to get some insight from others on if peppermints have still been worth it to you in the past or if you tend to stick with the regular treats to get stats that help for showing

Thanks in advance for any help!

peppermints are showing death sentences. unbeknownst to me, i treated my appaloosa stallion with peppermints for the foundation contest, and while he was one of the lead horses as a 2 year old, when he started showing, he never placed, and quickly fell behind. to this day, as an eight year old, he has never placed top three, and he's been shown every single day.

i finally had to convert him to something else and convert him back to western to even him out, which i did today, and hopefully he'll begin placing. horses that get fed peppermints right away never seem to hold up in competitions against horses naturally treated to their specialty. i'd be wary about treating with peppermints anymore.

If you want your horse to show well, do not use anything that will give a stat in anything other than the two specialty traits. The only safe way to use peppermints or other similar treats is to change specialties afterwards. Some people do this when the horse is still a foal, and then change the specialty when the horse is three so all the acquired stats revert to the specialty traits, and then use regular treats from there on out. It's expensive, but it does give a bit of a stat boost without ruining the show potential of the horse.

Another option would be...

To put them in a specialty that isn't what you originally were breeding for (hang with me here). Then peppermint them and put them into the riding school. This will get you 0-16 stats per day, (0-6 for peppermints, and 0-10 for the riding school (though personally the highest I've gotten from the riding school was 6)) plus train your horse for the stat bonus points (so 11+ every 10 days). Then when your horse turns eighteen pay the 10k to convert your horse into the discipline you actually want to breed for; from that point use specialty specific treats and compete your horse if you feel up to it or you could continue using the riding school. An added bonus to this crazy plan is that you make money everyday, rather than spending money on shows.

Personally I would only suggest this if you were using peppermints with the parents and know that your horses will not be able to show well. Doing this for a few generations should, in theory, begin to move your horses stats toward a specific discipline.

If you don't want to do that craziness then avoid peppermints, they are the death of showing horses. I used them for 4 days on the old version of the game with my clydes and they are seriously suffering from it.

OMG the convert training trick just saved my life. I never even thought of that! I was feeding peppermints for a bit, then learned about the detriment in showing :/ Gotta go fix a few horses now...

Thanks everyone for the advice. I'm still getting used to the new EV after coming back from hiatus so your help is greatly appreciated!
