Vanners: Dressage or Driving?

#39333 Posted on 2016-05-19 08:04:13

I've been playing the game for a long time, but took a couple year absence.

Starting back up again with a large line of Gypsy Vanners. My first thought was doing Dressage, which is what I've got all my foundations as. But I've purchased a few Driving Vanners and those are the ones who are constantly winning the shows. So now I am rethinking my plan.

If I switch everyone to Driving, is there enough shows? Which is more popular? It seems like a pretty even split to me. Is there a reason to choose one over the other? Switching to Driving will be very expensive. But I'd like to make sure I stay in the specialty were I'm going to be able to find studs and be competitive.

You could do either, I don't breed Vanner's so I can't help you there.

But I think the reason that many of your dressage horses are doing worse than your driving horses, is that the driving tack on the horses is upgraded to 5/5 however you have dressage tack that is 1/5. I think if you upgrade the tack on your dressage horses to 5/5 you'll see a vast improvement in their number of wins.

Also the difference in training levels for your horses will cause a difference in the number of wins. If you keep training the dressage horses they'll do better over time.

Hope that all helps :)

I was doing both dressage and driving gypsies tbh.

Driving is definitely the most popular discipline for them, but dressage is probably the second most popular. It's really up to you which you'd rather do; if you want to buy outside horses and use outside studs, it's more likely they'll be driving-disciplined/statted. But you definitely won't be alone if you stick with dressage, either. So it really comes down to what you prefer.

There should definitely be enough shows regardless of which discipline you pick; most of the time it seems show numbers have evened out, and we rarely run out of them anymore. Driving actually seems to have more shows available on average than dressage, it seems.

Thanks. I'm not high enough level to upgrade my tack yet. They were purchased like that. But soon.

Sounds like I should really switch to driving. Maybe I'll do it over time to spread out the expense. lol.
