Loving all the interest in figuring out conf inheritance and ~science~. I have a few mares bred due tomorrow. I'll post the dam/sire stats and foal stats then. ;)

From what I've seen with my foals, I'm guessing that improving your horse over its lifetime will increase the overall conformation of the foal. I'm not sure if it's stats or points or a combination of the two. I've matched two horses that were in their teens, and their foal's conformation was greater than the average of the two. And I also bred a younger mare who happened to have the highest conformation of my herd, and that foal was a little lower than the average.

I'm getting my first foals from breedings in the recode and so far I am having fabulous luck with high numbered conformation horses greatly improving the low ones. I still speculate that grandparents are entering the equation. I am only working with paints and have added in some foundation stock that are in the 53-58 % range. It will be interesting to see how many generations it takes to get to the 90% range. I have several stallions with 95% or more stats who also had 6P parents.

So what's our conclusion here? Some amount of grandparents + more parents = slightly average foal?

we don't know yet, winguard. we'll need more data and multiple generations to be sure of anything, and that doesn't account for things like care, grooming, etc.
