Laptops vs Art

#31556 Posted on 2016-04-16 18:21:08

Not sure if this is a general laptop issue or just a me not being great with technology issue but I figured I'd get some other input here in case its something that's an easy fix.

My basic issue is that everything I make art wise is super dark on other screens. I adjusted my screen as much as I can which helped some but the odd thing is, that things look fine when I'm doing my art in gimp but when I export it and save to my desktop and then reopen to view its a lot darker. I can even have them both open to compare, now its still a lot darker when I'm seeing it from another computer but I'm wondering if this is a gimp related issue or just a laptops don't have as much adjustment options as a desktop ussue. This is the only laptop I've ever used and even though I'm really only doing personal art stuff in my non-existant freetime it's really bothering me.

Right now to make my art even close to bright enough I've got two solid white layers set to overlay on top of my work (one set at 100% then the other at 40%)

Making it that bright makes it bright enough to see on other screens but then makes it look terrible/almost over exposed on my screen.

Anyone with thoughts/advice for me would be very appreciated.

Wait, so is it an issue of them looking different on looking different screens, or an issue of gimp vs desktop?

If its the first, all screens are different. My art looks WILDLY different when I look at it on my ipad than when I make it on my laptop.

Its both, but I thinking it may be mostly gimp related since I can have the file open in gimp and have a saved version of the exact same file open with photo viewer and there is a huge difference even though I'm viewing them from the save computer at the same time.

Hmm. Have you tried downloading photoshop CS2? it's free on the adobe website. Alternatively, firealpaca or krita. See if it still saves stuff like that.
