Money?

#29474 Posted on 2016-04-11 04:58:55

In old EV, while I wasn't too good at budgeting, I was still breaking even. I don't know what happened for everyone else, but when I started, I only had 20k, opposed to the 110k that I had in old EV, but if this happened for everyone then I guess thats cool.

I was wondering, how is everyone else breaking even? With needing to show most of my horses to gain stats its a bit tricky cause I'm not gaining much money from them, since most of them are foundation horses. Anyway, I'm currently sitting on 12k, wondering where all my other money went. Ideas on making money appreciated :). No I cannot art.

Arenas for shows, stud fees, games tent and riding. I don't break even but then I also recoded with less. I just keep trudging along. I also found morning time is the best time to get in for cheap shows. I have a couple higher ranked horses that can cost almost 2k if not over if I do t catch the time right to get them in shows.

My two side accounts started out in the recode with very little money, so I feel your pain.

I don't personally use the games tent, so I can't help with strategy there. I do turn a solid profit from shows, though, and that's with mostly foundation horses. The thing about foundations is, even when they start out with low stats, they're going to be competing against other horses with similar stats. They're not going to be competing against powerhouses. If you give them a good chance - keep up with treats, and upgrade the tack - you can make a steady profit. Tack is expensive, but if you upgrade it little by little, it makes a huge difference.

You do have some horses with really great show potential as well. High stats in their specialty traits, and really, really low ones in all other traits. With proper tack, those horses should win just about everything they touch.

You could go the cheap show route, but the payouts are small, and you end up with a lot of competition. An alternate strategy is to enter low-entry shows, later in the day, as expensive as you can afford. I personally try to aim for having five entries in a show (including my horse) so that I maximize my winning potential, as well as giving myself a chance for stats. I have a lot of success with this route, with both turning a profit and improving my horses.

If I had your herd, I would probably take my existing resources and put it towards upgrading the tack on those really great horses, show them using the strategy I described, and use their profits to upgrade the other horses' tack.

My other method of income is creating shows. Make as many arenas as you can afford, and create shows with them. I personally do $100 shows, because that's what I prefer to enter, but $20 might do just as well if they get a lot of entries. Arenas can pay for themselves very quickly, and everything after that is pure profit.

Of course, there is also the Fountain. That thing saved my skin so many times, back when my accounts were struggling.

Did you blow through your money or did you not realize anything on hand went straight to your bank when the recode transferred over? (not trying to be rude, but I think waking up early is getting to me because I don't understand if you just don't realize where your money went or if you spent it fairly quickly).
