Curb Bit Update

#267641 Posted on 2023-03-28 17:28:37

I think an update to the dressage and western bits is needed... let me explain :)

Pelham Bit:
So we currently have the pelham bit for dressage horses(Which is accurate) but it needs an update x3 Here is a standard pelham. The headstall attaches to the same ring as the curb chain. The hanks are straight and lie in line with the horses mouth when no pressure is applied to the curb reins. The port(Sometimes a joint or mullen mouthpiece) rests gently on the horse's tongue.

Western Bit:
Currently the bit artwork appears to be a gag bit with short shanks welded on to the rein rings. I'd like to see it changed to perhaps a Dog Bone Bit. Some, like the image before, have the mouthpiece on a bar allowing to to move up and down. Others don't, but this bit is similar enough to our current one that a huge change wouldn't be necessary.

That is all, thank you for reading! If you don't support or have anything to add, please say so!

The dressage horses of Equiverse seem to be fitted in a double bridle ( there are two bits in the mouth) consisting of a bradoon(snaffle) and a weymouth(curb). Some of them do look out of alignment. Horse wearing a double bridle

The western horses were originally wearing bits with an argentine style shank. The headstall was attached to the snaffle ring and the reins attached to the curb ring,in fixing this some of the bits came out an odd shape that I am not sure what name to put to.haha Horse wearing argentine shanked bit they are often called argentine snaffles, but they are not snaffle bits. They are pretty much the western equivalent to a pelham.

Yes, some of the bits look a little wonky.haha =D

Yep! The double bridle is also sometimes referred to as a full bridle as well :D After looking at the bridle on Andalusians, it appears there are 3 cheek pieces: one attached to the proper ring(with the curb chain), one to the snaffle ring, and one to the noseband. The one on the snaffle ring doesn't belong :3
Oh and some bits used with the double bridle have the snaffle and curb bits conjoined(Linked above), which honestly I feel are a lot easier to draw, especially on such a small scale(thinking of ponies, especially minis), so the pelham would probably be easier to draw xD I just recently found a Weymouth irl actually, but I don't have the snaffle part :(

I believe I own an argentine bit(idk, I've collected so many lol), but even still the ones seen here have the shanks attached sort or at the middle of the ring, if that could be adjusted so that shank matches with the image you linked I'd be happy :3

(way too many western bits are referred to as 'snaffles' just because they are jointed x'D)
