Make Me Fall in Love with a Breed [directory??]

#2604 Posted on 2016-02-15 15:38:52

Hello! I'm facing the issue that many of my fellow returning-to-EV-ers are facing - what breed should I pick? Why? What's it like on EV to raise that breed?

So I thought I'd start a thread meant for more than two word breed responses. I'd like to make a 'catch-all' thread where members can post their reasons for picking various breeds, and maybe share any EV specific culture (are there breeding groups? long standing rivalries between three top breeders here? no one breeds 'em thus making them an easy place to stand out in? etc) about the breeds!

Example of filled out info for a breed:

Unicorn
Nicknames: Corns
Popular in-game disciplines: Dressage, Show Jumping
Popular real life disciplines: Show Jumping, Eventing, Jousting/Performance
Breeders Associations/Breed Clubs:
- Starswifts [focuses on achieving the highest speedstats in the game using exclusively unicorns, click HERE to visit their thread]
- Pink Fluffy Unicorns Dancing on Rainbows (PFUDoR) [chill hangout for Unicorn lovers, click HERE to visit their thread]
Reasons to Love 'Em:
Only breed that comes in RAINBOW.
Very active breed association chat threads.
The incredible magical mythology of the breed! Click HERE, HERE, or HERE to learn more about Unicorn lore!
High competition between breeders to breed many colors into one horse.
What's the "Holy Grail" of an EV Unicorn?
A Unicorn displaying 5+ colors in its coat.

So hopefully that gives you an idea of the information I think would be helpful to a use trying to decide which breed to work on on Equiverse. I will be going through these hopefully in the next few days to find some outside sources to link to about real info for the breed. (Eg, in the real world what the breed excels at, is known for, where it comes from, etc.) But I can't fill out the EV stuff and would love to have some help from any diehard fans of the breeds!

Thank you for your support!

I was just sitting here today looking at my Andalusians with Dressage specialties and going 'aaagh, am I SUREEEE? what about some of the other breeds, some of their art is better... oh but these ones tend to have more interesting colors...' and decided this is exactly what would help me. xD It wasn't until I saw two other 'what should I focus on' threads here that I decided to structure mine as a resource for others.

I'm here campaigning for everyone to breed the Dutch Warmblood... so here we go...

Popular real life disciplines: Show Jumping, Cross Country, Dressage - Also used to be used for Driving

Reasons to Love 'Em:
1. They're Dutchies, that's why
2. A nice "small" group of colors (black, bay, chestnut) with the gray modifier allowed, as well as the Tobiano and Roan genes. Makes for a nice color goal, but not something that takes a lot of work

Is there a way to link to specific posts? I'd love to be able to 'cite' the post information comes from - and it's a good way to add those little notes like 'so and so user SAYS SO that's why' without making the list 50% 'do it nowwww' rather than real info, lol.

At work atm, but will try to edit in Dutchie info soon!

Clydesdale

Nicknames: Clydes
Popular in-game disciplines: Driving
Popular real life disciplines: I don't know much about Clydes tbh, but of course they would do things such as driving, pulling, etc. in real life.
Breeders Associations/Breed Clubs:
- Clydesdale Club
Reasons to Love 'Em:
The art for one thing is beautiful. Personally my favorite breed art on the game. I love how big and chunky they look, and they have very sweet faces. I love Clydes because they're like big babies. They are an easy breed to dominate because there aren't many breeders, but the breeders that are there are good, dedicated breeders.
What's the "Holy Grail" of an EV Unicorn?
Chestnut, and a solid coat.

Clydesdale

Nicknames: Clydes

Popular in-game disciplines: Driving

Popular real life disciplines:

Driving & pulling, but some clydes also compete in dressage and as THIS link shows, they can be very versatile.
Also used in forestry & as drum horses.

Breeders Associations/Breed Clubs:
Clydesdale Club
Equiverse driving society

Reasons to Love 'Em:

They are the only draft breed on the game, and the artwork is stunning.
This breeds dominates the driving competitions. There are not a lot of breeders, but the quality of the population is quite good.
Unfortunately the gene pool isn't very diverse with some stallions being very common, so we can always use some new dedicated breeders.

What's the "Holy Grail" of an EV clydesdale?

Solid coats in general, and the classic solid bay with 4 socks and a blaze.
Some like solid chestnut, but personally I LOVE the solid blacks & white faces.

Shetland ponies

Nicknames: Shelties, shetties, SP's, little brats

Popular in-game disciplines:
Driving
There is also a smaller but good quality racing population

Popular real life disciplines:

Driving, carting. It is regarded as one of the strongest horse / pony breeds in the world.
Children's riding pony.
Show pony

Breeders Associations/Breed Clubs:
Shetland pony club
Equiverse driving society

Reasons to Love 'Em:

These guys are cute and versatile. I love the chubby pony breed art.
They also come in a wide range of colors including wild bay, KIT, champagne...

It is only recently that these little guys are getting attention from quality breeders. They have always been popular, but it was hard to find high statted ponies. If you start breeding shetties and treat, train and show them daily, you have a good chance of becoming one of the top shetland pony stables on the game.

What's the "Holy Grail" of an EV shetland pony?

1000+ stats and the more color the better.
