When Andres saw Amberlee motion to the door, he stood up, wiped his hands on his ever so spotless Paisley and walked to the door where the guard stood “ I assume everything went well, John?” he began.
“ Yes sir. And I might have found something of Amber’s on the ground on the way from the forge this morning.” He placed his hand into his pocket and took out a ring. He then looked at Amberlee and smiled “ I assume this my dear, belongs to you” he walked past Andres and stood in front of Amber. Before extending his hand to give her the ring “Be careful next time. It was easy enough to find it in broad daylight, but nighttime is near impossible”
John then stood up and walked back towards the door, but Andres stopped him “Make sure there are extra guards outside the doors and at the gates. I have a feeling something is going to happen. And its all for Amberlee’s safety I’m doing this.” The guard nodded and went off in search of the other guards and had them posted in their rightful places.
Little did anyone know, much less the Andres, that spies would be coming to investigate and possibly come after Andres to find and take away Amberlee. But they had to find Thomas first.
Everything was quiet and peaceful at the Osborne home that afternoon. Nothing stirred. Not many conversations happening. The meals were quiet that day. Andres was eating in Amberlee’s room so that she wouldn’t feel lonely. “ You know I wont ever let harm come to you. You have suffered too much, and I want to repay you somehow…. But I think the ring on that finger does it and so much more” he put his plate of royal potatoes and salad down on the dresser and wrapped his arms ever so gently around her body. And kissed her forehead before sitting on the bed with her, intertwining his hand in hers.

Amberlee gasped when she saw the ring presented to her. "Thank you so much, good sir," she beamed, repeating her thanks multiple times. She took the ring from him and immediately slipped it back onto her right index finger, right where it belonged. The warmth against her skin immediately soothed her, making her smile with a soothing comfort. "Next time I will be more vigilant," she promised.
Amberlee leaned into Andres' kiss, then started playing with his fingers as he intertwined them with hers. She enjoyed these shared dinners together. It always felt like, for those precious few moments, it was only the two of them and all the rest of the world had slipped away. But she cocked her head in confusion when he mentioned repaying her. "I don't understand," she said, "why would you repay? What would you even be repaying me for? If it's because I protected you, then I will remind you the books say it's our duty to protect our lord or lady," she grinned at him, almost taunting him, then her smile softened, "but I did it because you are the prince of my heart, and I couldn't stand to lose you. Especially not to something that I could protect you from," she said softly. She tilted her head, giving him a mischievous look, "I'm curious though, now that I am your girlfriend, and your betrothed," she absentmindedly touched the ring on her finger, "how does this affect my position as maid of your household? Will I need to hide the ring? Will I even be allowed to love and kiss you in public?" she purred, leaning closer and giving him a sensual kiss on the lips, then giggled, "what will happen at parties or balls? What if other females wish to dance with you while I'm left serving food and drink?" These questions and more had plagued her mind ever since he gave her his ring. And she had finally worked up the courage to ask.
She turned his hand over, facing his palm up, and rested it on her leg while she traced little symbols on his palm, "there is something else I must tell you. As soon as the next full moon graces our skies, I will make that protection trinket for you. And...I-" she hesitated for a moment, taking a steadying breath before continuing, "I plan on beseeching the fae for their blessing as well. Depending on how charitable they're feeling at the time, it may well be a stronger trinket, one that nearly rivals my nullification shield, and it may possibly allow you to see them all as I can as well," she said a little nervously, not sure how he would react to this, "and I ask that, when that night comes, that you will come with me. Please," she asked him, turning her gaze to his. There was a pleading within her eyes, she really wanted him to join her, to see the world as she did. "Perhaps, I might also have leave to see my father at some point. I'm not sure how you feel about inviting him here, so I am willing to find my way to town. When you feel I am well enough, of course," she grinned, "I wouldn't want to upset my prince," she purred, leaning forward to kiss him again, a teasing playfulness in her tone and actions

“ you are very welcome, my Lady” John replied back with a smile on his lips “ And before I forget, I did talk to your father, but he insisted that he didn’t want to disturb your rest, my dear. But I would be able to go back to him and let him know that you would like to see him.”
“ Now now… lets not get overthinking things, John, she has yet to heal. Give her a few more days to heal before you go find him and bring him here” Andres said shooing John away so he had some private time with Amberlee.
When he finally left, Andres turned his head towards Amberlee when he heard the question about being a maid “ I am still going to make you a maid… but I think you would be better working with the horses and since Carbriel has gotten attached to you, I am letting you have her. So I expect you to take care of her. Ok?” He turned her chin towards him, lifting it up to his level and kissed her lips. His hands intertwined in hers lovingly. And then he chuckled “ the books do indeed say that… why not start when you think you feel able to walk around a little? We can start with getting myself dressed each morning so that it doesn’t hurt your back too much. When you are fully healed, I think moving to the stables would then be the next step: he then looked at the ring “ I think it is best if iyou do hide it from specific reasons. But make sure you remember who you belong to” he teased with a wink at her direction before standing up and looked out the window.
He thought about her questions that now flooded his brain “ Well as for the boundless questions you are hitting me with…. You need to hold the urges to kiss me, being in public is a serious thing. You must control yourself when in company. Especially during the meetings I will have. But when they are done and at night, then you and I have all the time in the world with each other. I have yet a few ideas for parties and balls. You will have to wait my dear. I just might be able to go and buy you something special for such things. You will do as I say when going to places. Disobey me and you will be punished… but not as severely as you might think”
When he felt the patterns being made on his palm, he shivered a little, but didn’t say a thing. “ I would be happy to go with you. I have always wanted to meet other types since I was a little boy. I will be the perfect gentleman when or if I will see then, Amberlee. But no promises on that. Only time will tell.” He then walked back to her and leaned into the kiss she gave and breathed her scent in “ I think a date is in order the moment you feel better, my dear. How does that sound?”
As they sat there, danger was building and Thomas would not be found at the forge the next morning. And it would be a mystery to figure out what truly happened and see if there was a way to trace their tracks on the search for Thomas.

Amberlee blinked. "You want to put me in the stables?" she asked, not quite understanding why, "but why? I thought I'd- hold on, did you just say you're giving me one of your mares?" she breathed the question as he turned her chin toward him, although after he kissed her, she was instantly pacified, and didn't really care anymore, as long as she got to remain by his side. However, she tensed when he mentioned dressing him. "I...you couldn't possibly be serious?" she breathed, "I've never seen a man...I mean...I..."she blushed the brightest red, "you do such a fine job of dressing yourself though, you're always exceptionally neatly groomed and you your sense of style is second to none and you smell wonderful," she was rambling, not sure where to look as her eyes flit this way and that, trying her best not to make eye contact with him.
His remark about hiding the ring was enough to distract her though. Her gaze dropped to it, "as you wish, my lord," she said softly. She fiddled with the ring he gave, wondering why he wanted to hide it. It bothered her. She truly did belong to him, and would never give herself to another. She only hoped it was the same for him as well. She was, however, beginning to wonder what this punishment was he kept threatening her with, a part of her was tempted to push the boundaries to learn what they were. But maybe not yet, she thought.
She smiled slightly when he said he'd join her when making the trinket though. "I'm glad you will join, perhaps that way I can attune it to you specifically then, then none can steal it from you ever," she explained, "and your idea of a date sounds wonderful. But we've been seen together in public before, you've kissed me in public to prove a point to Claude, what's the point in hiding this?" she motioned to the ring, a soft smile on her lips, "don't worry, I will do as you asked. I am merely curious to learn why," she explained. "Oh, and resisting the urge to kiss you is going to be more difficult that you could ever imagine, my prince, that in and of itself is a punishment," she chuckled. She leaned back against the headboard, "Andres, where did you learn to fight the way you do?" she asked curiously, "I still can't get over how talented you were. It's one thing to know your way around sword play in a controlled situation, but the way you handled yourself with Claude..." her voice died down and she smiled, swooning, "I've never seen anything like it," her gaze met his, "you were absolutely amazing," she complimented, "your grace and dexterity...it was like watching a dance almost," she breathed, awestruck.
She pulled him closer to her, wanting to just cuddle with him a little as she began feeling tired. Even having him merely sit on the bed was a great comfort to her. "I still feel like the luckiest girl for having you in my life," she whispered to him sweetly as her eyes grew heavier and heavier. Her breathing grew even and deep. She did not remember falling asleep.

"Take it easy Princess.” Andres chuckles placing a finger to her lips “ No complaining and no whining. If you care for them the way I have it listed on your sheet, then yes, I plan on giving you one of them.” He chuckled even louder at her stutter about dressing him “Now now.. take it easy, Amberlee, You are thinking the wrong thing when it comes to getting me dressed. I know the book says to no look. But it isn’t what you think, my dear.” He lifted her into his lap ever so gently, keeping his firm hand on her hip the other on her jaw “I will be up at the right time and begin to dress while you make the rounds, but you will have to help with a few… small details with either me or my mother. “
“Don’t you worry. I have had that ring since I was a lad. If you lose it, I don’t know what I would do. So if you wish to not wear it in public… I have other ways of making sure people know you belong to me” he teased giving her a kiss on the neck before going to her chin then her lips. “ Now… about those parties… why don’t I go look to see what I have placed in your huge walk in closet and see what I picked out for you. “
He kissed her once more before sliding her gently off his lap and walked to the closet across the room and opened it wide “ Now… lets see what we have here” he grazed his fingers over the silk, polyester, and hundreds of other types of fabrics “you know… my mother all made these… they were.. um… made for the girl I was to marry those years ago. So I hope they fit you” he then looked at a red and gold ballgown that his fiancée wore and he took it through his fingers remembering the moment. His ever first kiss, his proposal, the ring he was going to give her. His head perked up “ the ring” he mumbled and put the dress back up and headed back to Amberlee’s bedroom “ I swear I saw that thing while I was cleaning this room” he said shuffling things around, closing and opening drawers and dressers. “ I’ll just… look for it later” he said giving up a while later and just sat on the bed once again.
"Proving a point to someone is more than it may seem, my dear. If you see Claude when we are together anywhere… let me know and we will leave instantly so nothing bad will occur.” He then thought about her question about his skills “Well… I started to use a sword when I was six years old. Surprising, isn’t it? I then got Carbriel when I was eight. So she knows me to the core. " then added "Swordsmanship is a hard skill to learn. Took me years to master it. And I hope one day, you learn to do the same. Me as your master” He laughed a little at his last comment “I should have phrased that differently. But anyways… if you know how to hold a sword and use the techniques that won’t get you hurt, you would be able to do the same with a small pocket knife.” he took one out of his own pocket and opened it “ sharpest blade in all of the town. even to touch it would break the skin a little.” He closed it up and placed it on the dresser “I think that’s enough of a lesson for one day.”
That’s when he felt her getting heavier against him and he smiled “ I think I should let you rest, princess.” He said taking her hands off him and gently laying her on her back under the covers. And before he left, he placed a kiss on her forehead before setting up a food plate for her so she had something to eat when she woke. He placed it on the side table in her room before walking to his own bedroom and changed into some more comfortable day clothes. Something not too tight and hot. When he changed, he went to go sit on his bed with one of the books from the self and began on page fifty. He knew that time would pass quickly when reading. He kept in his kind the last words that Amberlee spoke You indeed are the luckiest girl, Amberlee. That will never change.

When Amberlee awoke again, she felt surprisingly refreshed and ready for the day. She looked around her lovely room, her eyes finding the food neatly left on her bedside table. She smiled, "you really do think of everything, don't you, Andres?" she breathed softly to herself. She sat up in bed and reached over for the food, eating every last crumb. Only then did she realize how hungry she actually was. While she ate, she thought of the conversation they had before, and smiled sweetly. She especially considered his proposal on taking up sword lessons. Naturally, her mind got stuck for a moment on one single phrase, Me as your master, and she blushed. She wondered if he'd realized just how true those words had become. But the proposal on sword lessons was a fantastic idea. Although she'd never really thought about it herself, she had heard stories of great mages in the years past who had the ability to wield both weapon and magic, they were considered heroes of the time for their acts of good. "Maybe that could be me...one day," she mumbled to herself, then snorted, "no, I don't want to be that. But, hearing people one day speak of Andres with that affection...now that would be something," she smiled.
When she was done eating, she decided to get out of bed for a change. If she was honest, she was starting to get sick of just laying in bed all day. So she threw back the sheets and waddled toward the wash basin to clean her face and wash up. Then she went to the walk in closet, and studies all the clothing hanging there. The very many dresses were indeed lovely, and if they were truly all made by his mother, then she is a complete artist with a needle and thread. Each dress and outfit was more lovely than the previous one. Her gaze fell on the red dress he had seemed so enamored with. She wondered what memories were tied to it. And for a moment, she wondered if she should really be wearing these, considering they were made for another, not for her. She wondered if that girl was to be made a maid in his household as well, or if she was a pureblooded noble woman. Looking at the dresses, she leaned toward the latter. Then she remembered how he searched for a ring, and made a mental note of trying to track it down.
Eventually, Amberlee settled on a lovely, more simple cotton dress in lilac. The dress fit well enough, she supposed, and was very comfortable. She made sure to wear her jade ring on her right index finger, then glanced at the ring Andres gave her on her wedding finger. I have other ways of making sure people know you belong to me, he had said to her, the memory of the words giving her butterflies again. She wondered what he meant, how else he would let people know? Perhaps he'll tell her during one of their conversations. No, he's most likely to keep that secret to himself, she thought with a giggle. She kept the ring on. Digging out a pair of matching silk slippers, and braiding her hair, she decided it was time to head out for a bit. She approached the door and felt a little nervous about opening it, not sure what she'd find on the other side. She squared her shoulders and opened.
Sure enough, Westley was the first to speak, "hello again, young miss," he said with a grin, "Lord Andres has instructed me to keep an eye on you. Shouldn't you still be resting?" he asked, looking her over. She looked quite lovely in that dress, and he recognized it as the Lady's handiwork.
"Oh, hello Westley," Amberlee said, "I'm feeling a little better today so thought I might go for a walk," she explained.
"I will inform Lord Andres immediately," Westley said firmly, then turned to leave
Amberlee grabbed his arm, "wait, surely we cannot disturb the lord for every little thing that happens? He is a busy man, after all. I'm just going to go to the gardens, to get some fresh air, nothing will happen," she smiled and turned to leave, hurrying as quickly as her feet would carry her.
"Wait, miss!" Westley reached toward her and hurried after. He failed keeping her safe the last time he had to watch her, he would not fail the young lord again.
Meanwhile, another guard had the sense to inform Andres. He knocked on the young lord's door, "milord, Miss Amberlee is up and about. She is heading to the gardens to get some fresh air, Westley has gone after her," he informed Lord Andres with a respectful bow.

Andres lept out of his own bed, the book that used to be in his hands, now on the floor “ That girl is really gonna get it today.” She snapped as he got dressed as quickly as possible, brushed his teeth, and grabbed an apple to feed on as he grabbed his shoes and headed back outside in search of her. She is so gonna get it. He thought as he went through the halls and corridors before reaching the door that lead to the outside. “ Amberlee! Get over here this instant!” he yelled for the first time in years. It was clear that he wasn’t happy. He found Westley not too far off from the gardens and walked right towards him. “ Westley I swear to the stars above my head that I said to never leave her side! This is your last warning Westley. If I see her out alone one last time you done. Got it?” he looked up and away from him in search of Amber.
He found her behind the royal roses and he walked right over to her. He grabbed her arm rather harshly and made her look at him “ I know I should be this mad at the one I love, but today isn’t a day I am usually happy so maybe I’m glad you chose this day and not any other.” He didn’t even notice what she was wearing. Until now That lilac may be a tiny bit big… but it sure is the color for you he thought as he looked at her up and down, then looked at her face. Clear tears in her eyes from the anger that Andres portrayed. He lifted a hand rather too quickly, but he had other ideas for the use of that hand. Rather than smacking her across the face, he grazed his thumb across her jawline before leaning in and kissing the tears away. Before going to her own lips. He held the kiss for a while breathing in and out. But then he let go and looked into her eyes and spoke “ You should have awaited me, Amber. You have no idea what could have happened. Its still early and I know what happens usually at this time of day. Plus we don’t know what someones plans are if there are any. And speaking of which… I need to go to the forge today. Carbriel loosened a nail again. “ he sighed heavily “ and you my dear are coming with me whether you want to or not. If I had handcuff, I would handcuff you to me til I saw that you wouldn’t do a rash thing like this again.” He laughed at his idea but got control of himself before taking his hand in hers “ Now come on… you need to continue to read those two books. But you are going to be in my study. “
He then began to walk back into the house, the two guards in toe behind them, their shoes making the gravel loud under their boots. When they finally reached the safety of the house, Andres let go of her hand and headed towards the stairs “ come on Amber… lets go the books are already up in my study” he said not looking back. Westley, ever so gently grabbed her arm and led her to the stairs before letting go “ best if you listen to him. Like he said… this isn’t one day to keep him waiting.”
By the time she finally entered, Andres was sitting at his desk, his feet up o the desk, his hands behind his head, head leaned back, and eyes closed. This was his way of trying o calm down every time something didn’t go as planned. “Come in and sit down in that other chair, Amberlee.” he said without opening his eyes. “ I know I seem harsh, but that’s because my birthday is a week away and I'm stressed. It isn’t you at all Amberlee.” He then opened his eyes and put his feet on the hardwood floor. Then changed the whole topic from his birthday to sword training. “ with the discussion we talked about, I think a little training in in order. Since you like to get into trouble around me. This should sort that out a little. I have my late fiancé’s clothes from when I thought her in your dresser. They should fit you well enough. If not, I can have my mother fix it a little bit. “ she is going to learn so much from this training its gonna make her think twice before doing anything rational. “ After you have read… lets say six pages from each of the books, go get dressed and we will start that training before you and I head over to the forge to get Carbriel's shoe fixed. Westley will lead you back to your room to get dressed and then lead you back here."
He really hated how he was treating her, but he couldn't do anything about it. What neither of them knew was that the forge would be empty. Thomas wouldn't be there. A little hint would be left behind to let Amber know what happened and who was there that moment. And Andres would do everything he could in his own power to her Thomas back safe and Sound. And it was a risk he was willing to take.
( I kinda had a feeling that Amber would do what she did lol perfect way to set Andres anger on fire right where I want it hah)

Amberlee was in complete shock. She had no idea why Andres was so angry at her. Her eyes were wide as he went off on her, and she knew she would bruise where he grabbed her arm. Why was he so angry? Why today? She was too mortified at that moment to ask him though, or to say anything for that matter. She felt the silver line her eyes against her will, but she couldn't stop it. When he lifted his hand so quickly, she actually flinched, as if she were expecting his to strike her. But he didn't. His touch was affectionate, almost intimate. She stood in utter silence, like a deer caught in bright lights. She did not dare blink when he kissed away her tears, and this time, she didn't return his kiss when he kissed her lips, even though part of her wanted to. No, this was the day she tell him that it was not alright for him to yell at her like that for no real reason. She would tell him. She wanted to tell him, if her cowardice voice decided to obey her commands.
However, after the kiss, he explained that she should have waited for him, and he made it seem like something bad had happened on this day. Her heart clenched. Was this the day his previous lover was killed? She blinked, but confusion shone bright in her eyes. She had to aske him about it, she had to talk to him. But she just stood there in complete silence, like a doll. She couldn't deny how her heart skipped a beat at the mention of the handcuffs though, then she inwardly scolded herself for being such a strange, broken little soul. She hardly noticed when he took her hand, but her fingers instinctively curled around his. Like a perfect doll, she followed him into the house.
When Andres let go of Amberlee's hand, she remained where she was for a moment, watching him ascend the stairs. Part of her considered staying where she was, to demand he explain himself and his mood swings this instant. Her lips parted to speak, a light scowl on her brow, when she felt another hand gently touch her arm. She snapped her gaze toward the touch, but found Westley, gently trying to guide her up the stairs. Her scowl faded. She already got the poor guard into trouble once today, she couldn't risk it again. So she sighed through her nose, nodded and allowed the guard to lead her.
Amberlee stood outside the study for a moment, not entirely sure she wouldn't snap at Andres the moment she walked through the door. She took a few deep, calming breaths, before she reached gingerly toward the handle. She slipped silently into the study and found Andres sitting with his feet on his desk, hands behind his desk and eyes closed. She took another breath and slowly approached the table. She still had not said a word, although her mind was reeling to give him a piece of it. He told her to sit, as if she truly were a servant. She scowled at him, about ready to snap at him, when he spoke. When he opened his eyes, she was still scowling at him, feeling very displeased. She also didn't know how she felt about being dressed in his late fiancé's clothing the entire time. "I'm not her," she found herself saying softly, the scowl still on her brow, but she bit her tongue before she said anything more. If she said anything right now, it would be from a place of anger, and she knew almost certainly it would only make things worse. She instead grabbed the books, plopped down in the chair, opened to the last place she had read and positioned the cook in such a way that the book obscured him from her sight. She stared blankly at the page for a good five minutes, trying to get her mind under control once again before she actually started reading. Focusing was a chore in and of itself, with her mind constantly wondering what was going on.
She closed the second book. "I'm done," was all she said to him as she rose from her seat. She hardly waited for his dismissal before walking to the door. She hesitated, considering asking him right now. But she decided to ask him on the road to town.
Sure enough, once she opened the door, Westley was there to lead her to her room, just as Andres had said. She obediently followed the guard. She waited until they were far enough away from Andres before she whispered, "Westley, I'm sorry for getting you in to trouble today. I didn't mean to," she apologized.
"Don't worry about it, Miss, I understand why he's like this," Westley said softly, "but perhaps now you will listen to the advice we give."
"Why is he like this though?" Amber asked
"That is not my story to tell, Miss," Westley said politely, "I will be here when you are done."
Amberlee sighed, quickly realizing she wouldn't learn much from asking the guard. So she slipped into her room to change. However, instead of wearing more of his late fiancé's clothing, she wore her own clothing. A pair of soft leather pants, and a tunic that her father had packed into her satchel along with a few of her things. She had no choice but to wear the soft leather boots that she found in the walk in closet though, considering her own slippers wouldn't exactly work for a trip to town. After, she braided her hair, ensured both rings were on their respective fingers, and was then escorted back to Andres' study by Westley.
Westley knocked on the door, "my lord, Amberlee has dressed and is ready to depart," he called through the door.
The moment the door opened, Amberlee crossed her arms, "I understand that your temper is on a shorter leash because you're stressed, Andres, but I don't understand why you're so stressed!" she snapped.
Westley bowed and wisely decided to back a way a few steps, not getting involved in this fight.
"I don't mind you being protective, or possessive. I might like that a bit too much to be considered normal. However, you snapped at me in the garden today, you hurt me when you grabbed me, and I have no idea why. What is going on? Why is this time of the year so bad for you? You're supposed to be happy because it's your birthday, I don't understand!" she demanded to know, despite the books clearly saying you should never demand from your lord or lady, "and one more thing, why do you keep wanting me to wear clothing that was especially made for someone else? I am not her, I will never be her. I appreciate the new clothing, but it feels like you haven't let her go, and you want me to be her. That's not going to happen," she said as gently as her state of annoyance would allow. She truly hoped he would actually speak to her, and tell her what was going on.

Meanwhile, back at the forge
Thomas made his way to the forge early that morning. He unlocked the back door and went in through there, as he did every morning. He did not see the shadow waiting patiently for him. By the time the cloth was over his mouth, it was too late. A note was left in the backroom, with a black rose on top of it. A note addressed to Amberlee.

Now it was Andres’s turn to be dumbfounded on the conversation. “ Amberlee. I know you aren’t her! And yes its my birthday today.” he then sighed and stood up before walking to the window and looked out I really messed this up big time he thought“ I cant get her out of my head with what happened to her. She didn’t deserve to have died. She did it because she cared about my own safety.” The paused to look back at Amber “ Just like you did back with me and Claude. You protected me from being killed. You are everything just like her, Amber. All the actions remind me of her. I shouldn’t be angry because of this. And I apologize, Amber… forgive my anger outbursts. Im sorry for hurting you.” he then stepped away from the window and walked over to her his hand outstretched towards her. “ I will do the very best to forget the past of what I had with her, Amber. But your actions will never leave my head he added to himself in his mind “ Come on, lets get Carbriel’s shoe fixed and you and I can then spend some time together.”
But that would be happening. They still didn’t know that they would have to rush back to the stable to grab Ternura instead. Andres was thinking about how he acted towards his girlfriend and
It took him a full five minutes to even decide what to wear before looking back at her and smiled “ lets go see your father and see what he can do about that nail.” He waited for her to take his hand before walking out of the study, down the elegant stairs, and then out the door towards the stable.
As they walked, Andres was biting his lip, clearly deep in thought about his actions. But he had already said what he needed to say. The rest would have to show as the time wore on. They reached the stable and Ternura whinnied and stomped her foot when she saw them coming., tossing her head wildly.
Carbriel on the other hand was extremely quiet, her leg that had a hoof that needed fixing lifted a little bit. When she saw Amber she looked up and snorted a greeting. Before leaning her head back down.
“ Hey babe… grab Ternura’s tack for me while I get her set up. It’s the red and black set in the right side of the tack room” Andres said letting her hand go and headed inside the stall and began to groom her, talking to her as he did so.
His strokes with eh brushes were ever so graceful and gentle. And not a speck of dirt was seen after he finished. When the tack was finally brought out, Andres took the bridal first and put it on the mare. The sound of teeth grinding on metal was heard. And while he was getting the quarter sheet and everything else on, Andres asked “ has your father by any chance found a person to help him? If not, I would always fo find someone who is qualified for the job.”
The door then opened and Ternura walked out toward the entrance of the stable, waiting patiently for the two to climb on. But it would be a few minutes before that happened. “ I know things have been messed up this morning, but I wont ever stop loving you, Amber. I promise you. I will do my very very best to keep myself in check and not yell out at you. Especially you. “ he walked over to her and wrapped a hand behind the small of her back and leaned in for a little kiss. Then back off and headed towards the entrance where the mare was waiting. “ Ladies first” he chuckled as he helped Amber onto the back of the mare before climbing on after and whistled for the mare to a gentle trot.
With the argument behind them, they slowly headed towards town. A light hum coming from Andres, waving at the people that they passed as they too were heading towards the town. “ Good morning Lydia. Morning Bree.” He greeted them. By the time they finally reached the town, he looked towards the forge “ That’s odd… doesn’t your father work in the morning?” he brought Ternura forward before getting off and helped Amber as well before walking into the shop “ Thomas? “ he asked “ Thomas? I need some help on a little problem im having with Carbriels hoof again…” But there was no answer. Moreover, he didn’t even see the black rose and note that was placed on the anvil for everyone, especially Amberlee to spot. “ Well We can try another day then Amber, let’s go” But he was stopped by Amber as he was headed out, reins in his hand.He saw the expression on her face when he finally saw the rose and note " oh for stars sake... I know that rose... only one person could ever bring it... In fact... his sister grows them...." he said " Whats the note say? "

Amberlee forgave Andres. "I'm sorry if I came across as harsh, Andres, but at least now you spoke to me, and I understand better why you react the way you do. You don't need to forget her, or your past. You clearly loved her, and love is something that should be cherished in one's heart always. Please understand," she said gently, taking his hand in hers, "I want to make you happy. I want you to be yourself around me, and I want you to know you can talk to me about anything, whether it is a fear on your mind or in your heart, or even if it's just about your day. I'll always be here for you," she said sweetly. She gently rubbed her thumb over his hand. "We're quite the pair, you and I," she chuckled, "you have a temper that would make the legions of the dark realm quiver in their boots. And I am not the most submissive and never know when to bite my tongue. Whatever will we do with each other?" she chuckled. She now realized why he was so afraid something would happen to her after she protected him. And she wished she could promise him everything would be alright. "Maybe one day I'll find a mage who can teach me how to properly control my magic, so I won't be at such a risk when using it," she smiled, "I love you, Andres, and I will do what I can to protect you," she promised.
She felt bad that she didn't have anything to give him for his birthday though. She had lost track of days and somehow thought his birthday was still a few days away. She wondered what gift she could get him. She didn't have much in the line of savings to spend. What do you even get a royal who probably owns everything he could possibly want? she thought inwardly as they walked, one hand holding his, her fingers laced with his, while the other thumbed the ring on her finger. She zoned out, trying to work out what to get him as a gift. It had to be something special, something he would cherish for ever. Something that would always remind him of her when he saw it.
When they entered the stables, Amberlee greeted both mares. She let go of Andres' hand and walked to Carbriel, "hey girl, I missed you," she cooed, reaching out and gently stroking the mare. She placed a hand under the mare's chin adn guided her nose toward her lips, placing a kiss on it's velvety softness, "I hear you have a nail missing. Don't worry, I'm sure my father will fix you right up," she smiled, placing her forehead against the mare's.
She snapped her attention when Andres called her "babe," blinking at the nickname, but hurried over to the tack room to retrieve what he asked for. For a moment, she simply marveled at the tack room, everything was neatly packed and clean, nothing out of place. Then again, she would expect no less from her prince. Finding Ternura's tack was easy enough. She draped the bridle over her arm, and grunted under the weight of the saddle and blanket as she use both arms to hoist it up. "Okay, this is heavier than I thought," she groaned, convinced she might actually drop the saddle. Clearly, she had not recovered her full strength just yet, not physically anyway. Gritting her teeth, she carried the rack out to Andres, leaning slightly back in an attempt to help support the weight of the saddle. She nearly sighed with relief when the young lord finally took the saddle from her, trying to act casual as she stood beside him, watching him saddle the mare.
"I don't know if father's found anyone yet," she said to Andres in response to his question, "I know he spoke to one possible apprentice but the young man wanted far too much money for a salary, almost as much as my father makes. Another young apprentice approached him as well, but I'm not sure if that worked out or not. I suppose we can ask him about it when we get there," she said to him.
She gazed him when he spoke again, her eyes glittering when he promised his love to her. "I love you to, my prince, I promise you my heart only belongs to you," she said affectionately. She returned his kiss, smiling throughout. Then she followed him to the waiting mare. She waved goodbye at Carbriel and swiftly mounted Ternura with his assistance.
While they rode, Amberlee found herself cuddling into Andres, her mind drifting a million miles away. She was content with like, feeling like she was in a fairy tale with her handsome prince, as of yet unaware how her world would turn upside down.
When they approached the forge, Amberlee was immediately concerned. She looked to the sky, checking the positioning of the sun, just to ensure she wasn't getting ahead of herself. "That's strange, the forge is never cold at this hour," she said more to herself than Andres. She dismounted the mare and jogged toward the shop. "Father, are you here?" she called, unable to hide the concern in her voice. She checked the back room, behind the counter, outside round back, but found no trace of him. "Father!" she called out, but heard no response. She ran back into the shop, "he's not here," she breathed, panic beginning to consume her. Did something happen? Did he get hurt? Is he stuck or in trouble? Is he sick? Did someone harm him? Did something happen at home? All these thoughts and more rushed through her mind. But then she caught sight of the black rose, and the note underneath it. She gingerly picked up the note, but her trembling gaze shot to Andres when he told her he knew the rose. "Are you implying...that this is Cassandra and Claude's work?" she asked, almost too frightened to open the letter. Slowly, her gaze returned to the note and she opened it. She trembled as she read it,
Hello Darling
I'm sure by now you're worried sick about daddy dearest. But do not fret, he's very much alive, for now. You've been a very naughty young lady, and we can't have that, now, can we? So, here's the deal. Meet me at the stone waterfall in the center of the forest at noon in three days. Alone. Swear yourself to me, and your father will be a free man. Refuse, and a terrible accident might befall daddy dearest. Oh, and do warn that charming little prince of yours, if he tries anything, or if he or anyone else accompanies you to our little meeting, Thomas here will never see the light of day again.
Oh, and wear something nice, it will be a special night, after all.
See you soon
Amberlee was pale as death by the time she finished reading the note. She dropped the note and bolted to the nearby loo where she emptied the contents of her bowels into the chamber pot. "How could this have happened? How did he even know where he lives? This can't be real, this must be some sort of a nightmare," she wept after she had gotten up and cleaned her mouth and face. "What am I supposed to do? If I disobey, father will get hurt. If I do what he wants, then you..." she turned to face him, eyes puffy and red, "I don't want to lose or hurt you," she breathed and wept anew. "My father is old, I have to do something to help him, he has no one else!" she cried in a panic. Fury raged through her for what Claude had done, the audacity he had to dare bring her father into this. She wrapped her arms around Andres's waist, buried her head in his chest and wept.

“We really are a pair, my dear” he chuckled as he gave her the kiss once more “ I hope you know what being me is like. Everyone obeys me. Or so I thought. But you always will make me happy no matter what has happened in my past.” Then added “ I love you more than the stars above your head. And that’s all I ever wanted. Your love, trust, and motivation to stay with me through the hardships that go along with it.” Andres took the saddle from her arms and grinned, your strength will come back, Amber. I know the saddle is heavy. I promise you wont have to lift it again” he smiled when he saw her connecting with Carbriel once more “ She really likes you, babe” he said tightening the girth and groaned as he looked at Ternura “ you gained weight a bit didn’t you?” he teased petting her head.
Then he looked from the mare towards Amberlee “ Don’t worry, I’m sure that he will find someone soon enough.” Andres said “ There must be really good apprentices out there.” He tried to reassure her that someone would come forward to lend a hand one day when the time came. They headed towards the forge the following minute, the sounds of iron below them. Ternura may have been younger than Carbriel but was the laziest one when it came to riding in the saddle. So it took longer to get to the destination than it normally would. When they finally arrived though, Andres didn’t stop Ternura when Amberlee got off the mare and headed into the forge calling out for her father. But all the same, no response came to her.
When Andres heard what the note said, he rushed over and took the note and read it himself to make sure his brain wasn’t deceiving him. But it was all too true. “That idiot!” he snarled aloud “ I dont care what he wants. I’m coming with you all the same… but at the same time not with you. I know of one way where he won’t know that I came with you. You will take Ternura of course. And I will go on foot.” then added “For right now we ought to head back to the house and get ready. I don’t know what will happen, but your father will be fine. Claude never won a game of swords with me when we were kids and is likely not to win this one” He grinned as he looked at Amberlee with loving eyes “You are not going over there alone, no matter what he says in that letter, Amber. I will make sure nothing happens to you. I will watch everything. But we have three days til we go. S I think we should plan before anything else happens.” He then took his hands in both of hers and kissed her head “I won’t ever let anything happen to you. I give you that pledge right now.”
He let her cry the tears that needed to be shed “I won’t let your father die in the hands of Claude. I won’t let him waste a long prosperous life that is ahead of him either. He may be old. But I know you care about him greatly.” he then pulled her away from him “As for the time being… let’s get back to the house and eat. I think you endured enough suffering for today.” He slowly headed back to Ternura and waited for Amber to climb on. " I think I’ll just walk; you need some time alone right now. But I promise that I will be with you all day when we get back to the house”
When Amber was able to calm down and get into the saddle, then and only then did he walk. The reins in his hand. Thoughts of what the note really mean, going through his mind. If this is what I think It’s going to be, Claude won’t have a chance. Nor will his sister. It was a half hour later when they finally arrived back to the house and Andres stopped Ternura before placing his hands around Amber’s waist to help her get out of the saddle. The guard that was placed at the entrance took the mare and took her back to the stable while the two headed inside hand in hand.

Amber was numb with panic, with grief. She could barely think straight, let alone try having a conversation. By the time her weeping ceased, she could barely hear Andres' words anymore. She was aware that he was trying to console her, but other than that, it was as if she wasn't even there. She wasn't sure how long it took for the tears to stop. In fact, she wasn't even entirely sure just how she got on the horse. Or when they arrived back at the estate. Her thoughts had been a storm of scenarios, fears and "what if's" that she missed the entire journey.
Once they reached the estate, she practically let her body fall into Andres' hands when he helped her dismount the horse, then silently walked hand in hand into the estate. Thankfully, he took her somewhere quiet. She held onto his hand so hard, her knuckles turned white, as he was the last thread, the last shield keeping her from simply withering away. Once they were away from prying eyes and ears, Amberlee pushed herself against him, simply holding him, trembling.
She wasn't exactly sure if hours or minutes passed, but at some point, they moved to a sofa, and she half sat half lay beside him, almost on him, holding him, laying in his arms in utter silence. Eventually she turned her gaze to meet his, her mind feeling a little calmer, "what are we supposed to do?" she asked him, speaking barely louder than a whisper, "if I comply, if I go to him, I'll never see you again. And I can't guarantee that it's not a trap, that he won't use it as a way to get to you knowing you can't defend yourself against magic. But, if I do nothing, he'll hurt father. And I...I can't have that blood on my hands, I won't," she said firmly. Her eyes glazed over, but she tried blinking the silver away. She took a few deep breaths, once again calming her mind, her aching heart, "I know you said you won't let me go alone, but I don't know how we're supposed to trick him." In that moment, Amberlee remembered something. She sat up, "Andes, I don’t think...I don’t think it was actually his magic," she said softly, scowling as she was deep in thought, replaying the memory over in her mind, of the night Claude attacked Andres. "I mean, it was his magic, but it wasn't a part of him as mine is a part of me," she said, lifting her hand. A gentle stream of light danced between her fingers, as if to emphasize her point. "Which means he's somehow manipulating it, or has a magical object or weapon that he's wielding," her brows lifted, "that's usually a little dangerous," she sad softly. She tapped her chin, her gaze turning away, her mind scrambling for answers, "if we can part him from that object, there's a chance he may not have the ability to summon that magic anymore. Which means you can face him as a normal man." Her eyes lit with the flicker of hope, "if I can get close to him, I might be able to figure out what it is. And maybe, just maybe, if we're lucky, I can get it away from him long enough for you to rescue father and apprehend that pain in the rear," she said with a hopefulness, "we just have to ensure his sister is nowhere nearby. But you've broken through her charm once, it shouldn't have as strong a draw on you now if she tried it again," she said tapping her chin.
She knew Andres wouldn't be too keen on this plan, since it put her right in the middle of harm's way, but she didn't have any other choice at this point. And she voiced as much. "I know you don't want me anywhere near him, but what else can we do? Unless you somehow find a reason to issue a royal decree to have him locked up, and then risk the wrath of his very irritating sister, what else are we supposed to do? Send in one of your guards in the hopes that he won't know any better?" she asked sarcastically, not thinking for one moment he would think her serious, because she wasn't.

Andres layed on his back, his eyes looking up at the ceiling, his arms around his lover. Just listening to her voice. At one point he totally zoned out for a few moments before coming back to reality. “We wont have the time for a protective charm or pendant.” Andres began “ So its going to be a rough journey nonetheless.”
When he heard her mention going close to Claude, he scowled
That’s what I don’t want, Amber. You getting too close to him. I know the weapons he has, and he wont be scared to use them now” Andres sat up, but kept Amberlee’s head in his lap. Trying to find a way to keep himself hidden. Then, a few minutes later, he got an idea. “ That’s it!” he exclaimed “ Since he doesn’t want me coming with you, I will go ahead way before you’re due to arrive and watch from a distance. I’ll have a guard with me as well. Along with a few weapons of choice in case you are in trouble.”
When the idea of locking Claude up in a cell hit his ears, he actually chuckled a little. “ Been planning that for so long, Amber. But it wont be easy. Never has been.”
The room got quiet after that. Only their breath could be heard. A they layed there, Andres thought the plan over in his head. I cant interfere in this meeting. But it’s a risk im willing to take Im not going to let Claude hurt the one I love and kill the only family member she has left. I have to be strategic in how it all plays out. One wrong move is the death of us all.
Since Andres had no plan of moving from this spot, he ordered the chef to come up and make the two of them a small but hearty meal. With a glass of royal pomegranate, peach and apple wine. But when Andres looked over at Amberlee, he noticed the worried expression on her face still. He sighed before putting his glass of wine down and took both of Amberlee’s hands in his and looked at her “ I know you worry about your father, darling. You will get him back. I guarantee it. “ Then he took he chin and grazed it with his thumb. “ I promise he wont be harmed. The only one who will get really hurt is Claude.” He then leaned in and gave her a reassuring kiss. Ending the conversation before going back to his meal and drink.

Amberlee lost herself in the kiss with Andres once again. “You know, I could really get used to this,” she giggled against his lips before returning to her meal. While she ate, she thought about their discussion, about what he said. “You know, it’s not only my father’s safety I worry for, but yours as well,” she confessed softly, nearly whispering, “I worry he might hurt you, or worse. And until we can get you a protective charm, there is very little that will shield you against any magical onslaught from him. I have seen your skills with weapons, the last time you two clashed you proved that you certainly know how to fight. And I have no doubt that if you could meet him in a fair fight without magic that you would easily beat him,” she complimented, then her gaze turned grave, “but I think he knows that too. And because of that, he won’t hesitate to use his magic if he gets even the slightest bit suspicious,” she assumed.
The wind shifted outside.
Amberlee didn’t pay too much attention to the wind. She was more focused on Andres before her. “Say, you mentioned teaching me how to fight and defend myself, why don’t we start with that?” she shrugged, then grinned mischievously at him, “wouldn’t you feel at least a little better if I actually knew how to defend myself?” she purred, it was more a challenge – a friendly challenge – than a question. “Perhaps-”
Something knocked against the window, something that could have been a twig flung by the wind.
Amber’s gaze drifted tot he window. Her brows rose, “well well, it seems we have company,” she smiled as she got up and walked to the window.
Outside, perched on the windowsill, was something that most would mistake for a blue bird, a blue jay to be precise. It knocked against the window again.
Amberlee reached out and opened the window, “hello there,” she said with a smile.
“Our sparrow answers,” the bird, which wasn’t really a bird, spoke in a voice that sounded like one and many at once, “we have heard your plea, we have come bearing a gift,” it said.
Amber tilted her head, “little folk don’t usually interfere in the affairs of mortals though, why would you send a gift?” she asked curiously
“Our queen has seen. We offer aid to our sparrow, in her time of need,” the bird that wasn’t a bird said, presenting a charm to Amberlee, “our queen has made this. It will protect the prince. And it will allow him to see us,” was the only explanation offered.
“Your queen sends this?” Amber asked, a smile growing on her lips, “thank you, thank you so much,” she bowed her head in gratitude.
The bird which wasn’t a bird flapped it’s wings, seemingly excited.
Amberlee spun around to Andres, eyes wide with glee. “Andres, the queen of the fae has sent a gift,” she exclaimed, rushing over to him. In her hand she held the charm, it looked like a pendant, a stone with an opalescent sheen held by delicate wings of the purest silver, which hung on a pure silver chain. Without waiting for him to allow it, Amberlee quickly fastened the necklace around his neck. The moment the necklace was fastened around his neck, Andres would be able to see the fae, just like Amberlee naturally could. He would see the bird that wasn’t a bird perched on the windowsill, was in fact, a type of fairy. Even though it had wings like a bird on it’s back, and it’s legs were covered in feathers to the thighs, then ended in birdlike legs and talons for feet, it’s body from the hips up looked humaniod. Female. Lovely feathers forming a tail extended from the small of her back. And she had long hair on her little head that resembled the same deep, royal blue of her feathers, and long, pointed ears sat on the side of her round face. Her eyes were large and black, and seemed to glitter, as if there were stars held within.
“Andres, this is one of the little folk,” Amberlee said, motioning to the fairy with the wave of her hand.
The little fairy smiled brightly at Andres, revealing sharp canines, “greetings, Prince,” she said, bowing to him, “we have come bearing a gift, because our sparrow is one of us,” she said, flying closer to Amberlee and hovering just above her shoulder.

Andres stiffened up for a few seconds before the charmed necklace was around his neck. He had to close his eyes for a few moments before reopening them and there just above his girlfriends shoulder was the creature that Amberlee spoke of. He lowered his own head at the creature before looking over at Amberlee “ I don’t know what to say, love…I don’t even have the words to thank you properly.”
He had to think of a way to properly train her. “ If you wish to be trained on how to fight and or protect yourself… I think it best if we trained you today. Two days are left before you have to meet up with Claude.” Then added “ There should be some combat clothing in the dresser or in the closet if you wish to take a look.”
He didn’t know how training would go since he really never trained anyone. Other than his fiancé those many years ago. Then to the creature he said “ thank you very much for the gift. I shall treasure it always.” He placed his hand on the necklace and smiled before turning his back to the two, he had to bite his lip before getting under control “ If its training you wish, then come alone. A long day awaits. Both of us.” He slowly headed from the door, but stood in between it for a time, thinking. Then it occurred to him “ why don’t the fae watch the training in case something happens during it? I wouldn’t want my soon-to-be bride to be bruised and cut from training”
..
Time passed quickly after the encounter with the creature. Andres was getting hungry and he ordered the chef to bring something hearty once more for the two of them before training. He lead her to the back of the house where there was the garden and sat on the two person bench. “ I will start easy on you when the time for training comes, but I wont always be easy. Only for the first day or two.” The images of the fae went through his mind. Their beauty and skill. Their… loyalty. Andres shook his head from the thought of the fae to the thought of the love of his life beside him. “ I know I gave you the ring… but I never proposed the right royal way.”
He didn’t give her a second thought as he stood up after finishing his meal and kneeled down on one knee, taking her free hand in his “ Will you marry me, Amberlee." His eyes looked at her, with the passion of the the royal he was meant to be.
