Morgan Breeders?

#25034 Posted on 2016-03-30 16:22:25

Hello!!

So, I just started breeding morgans. I have a set of foundation horses that I'll be working with. I'm not familiar with the breed on EV, though (I really like the art and colors!) so I wanted to know a few things.

What discipline are your Morgans specialized in?

What do you personally breed for?
stats? color? conformation?

What do you avoid?
What color/traits do you try to avoid?

I'd love to see everyone else's favorite stock, too! I can't wait to see what my foundations do c:

I breed organs in various disciplines, but mainly dressage and western..
Personally, I breed for stats first...then colour....then conformation.
Although that stats on these foals are lower, its because i was focusing on breeding a colour that some of us thought wasnt going to be available in this new version. Introducing my pride and joys: The very very rare.... Seal Brown Cream Duns, 3 of them..they're identical lol
Seal Brown Cream Dun

Seal Brown Cream Dun

Seal Brown Cream Dun

colourwise..I also breed for flaxens, silvers and cream dilutes

I just have morgans on the side and just started out with a couple but i do want more soon because they are so pretty, i might give up my chincos for more *u* i think i might make a custom or something... cx

Right now i breed for stats and to be able to breed outside blood in my public lines as cleanly as possible.

I don't avoid anything mainly because this is my 'fun' side project so i want to be able to see if i can make future generations better. but i would say its the same as any other breed, low stats, bad confo, bad pedigree, certain colors in the breed that are too common, etc.

these are my two:
moon rocket $$ (#430452) & twilight $$ (#430471)

uGHH yes the silvers are the best, kimtia!! the one color I really want is a homozygous silver bay roan with a bald face and white legs.

you've got some nice ones there, windspun!

these guys are kinda a side project for me, too, madoka. mustangs are my main, but I personally don't like the new art, so I've been reducing my mustangs and going with other breeds :)

yay for side projects! i mean thats what welsh ponies were to me before the recode but now they are my obsession XD and morgans might be too o-o

i have been debating on buying kimmeh's no breeds and i did it and made me two purty morgans c;

«» x* Southern Skies (#423260) & «» x* Northland (#426617)

they are both foundations, the mare i turned into a flaxen red dun and is a dominant silver carrier c: the stallion is a smokey black i just had so much fun picking out their colors and markings o3o

What do you personally breed for? Stats primarily, but not at the expense of conformation. I spend a lot of time matching up breeding pairs to make sure they at least improve on conformation for the next generation. I also like color, but I just collect all the colors I like and let myself be surprised by how foals turn out. Is a little more fun for me that way.

What do you avoid? Any stock with stats below where they should be for their age, and I avoid stock with conformation under 50. As my generations improve, this number will go up.

What color/traits do you try to avoid? I'm pretty open to all the colors, though I prefer single dilutes, flaxen, and I adore grullo.

My favorites right now...
