EV Weight Loss Group

#24491 Posted on 2016-03-28 22:40:29

So this isn't any type of official group (though I suppose someone can make one if they want) but I'm attempting to lose weight (read: clothing sizes lol) and I figured other people on here are too and we can all boost each other a little bit. I'm talking motivation, favorite tips, best videos (preferably Youtube videos), recipes etc.

I personally have a very hard time staying motivated, especially since right now I'm only working part time until I go back to school in fall so I'm not GO GO GO which I have been for the past few years. So whoever wants to be my buddy, HMU.

Today I ran for the first time since I told myself I would start running two years ago, and that was two years since the last time I had run which was high school, and I did a 20 minute super beginners yoga class (Yoga with Adrienne, really nice videos). My legs are killing me and I was pretty sure I was having a heart attack but here I am. Now I just need the motivation to go back out lol

I used the Nike app to track my run and I went about 2.22 miles in 40 minutes, at least 90% of which was probably a walk. But we all have to start somewhere right? If you use the app or are considering it, especially if you're as ridiculously out of shape as I am, and you want to be friends let me know! I think you can do challenges and stuff against people and I really like being better at things than others so we can battle for best runner. Probably the saddest battle anyone's ever seen but that's alright.

Also a random "healthy" snack I like, plain old apples and peanut butter. I stopped drinking pop recently (then started drinking stuff like Sunkist as if that's not pop, so I'm stopping again) and I think doing that has helped me crave more natural things instead of junk food. I'll go for apples instead of chips or ice cream. Also helps me make better choices for some other meals! Anyone have snacks or meals that are pretty easy to make? Like, super easy..sometimes I eat quesadillas like 3 nights in a row because all you have to do is heat a pan, but even then I'm hardly in the mood to do that much.

Good luck and happy weight loss! Pray for all the cute pants in my closet that my body's too bootylicious for right now. :)

Yay!! As a runner, I love it when people start getting into running. You gotta start somewhere and I know it can be discouraging but just think if you stick with running how much progress you'll make in even a month and then a year down the road!

Just a word of caution about using apps to track running...sometimes they can be super inaccurate. I have a few examples of proof to back this up but I'm on my phone and don't feel like typing it out lol. I use a watch and the mapmyrun website to figure out distances.

Hmm....meals in a pinch...I really like making tofu stirfries. I also like quesadillas lol. Ummm you can make really yummy pb wraps and throw in sliced apples, granola, etc. Or go the hummus wrap route...there's lots of things you can throw in wraps. I find citrus fruits really help my cravings for processed sugar.

I'm trying to buy frozen vegetables (I don't always want them before fresh ones go bad) and get some fruits. I like halos but I've never been very big into citrus anything so I'm worried I'd shell out all that money and not finish them! :(

Also I'm not too worried about the actual tracking right now mostly because I'm not actually running these distances just going, so I dont know how far I ran anyways, but I'm hoping I can eventually use it more to challenge others and become the best lmao

Well, for when you do want to know distances! now you know.

I don't see a problem with frozen vegetables, lol, they would be good to throw in a stir fry and I always have that problem of things going bad and I feel so bad wasting them.

I'm super lazy when it comes to making snacks, so if I'm hungry and/or feeling like getting off the sofa and doing some exercise, I'll grab some fruit from the fridge and go for walk.

Like, I'd literally take an apple, banana and maybe pear and get out for an hour. It's not exactly hard core exercise, but it's making an impact since I do it on top of other things like running, hurdles, tree climbing + breaking my back lifting hay.

Not sure if that's helpful. I figured might as well share something that I do lol.

Now that the weather is getting warmer again, I'm starting to walk again. Chase is a fatty as well, so needs his exercise (though I'm honestly not sure if it's truly his just being fat by eating too much/not enough exercise or a health issue. We already cut his food down and it didn't do anything, so now we're adding exercise and if that doesnt work he'll go to the vet).

We have a gorgeous trail that goes to many towns around, but in my town it also loops around the lake. In total, it's just over 3 miles, and about 1.5 miles if you only walk half.

I've been inconsistent due to a busy schedule, but did walk one half loop, and then one full loop when I walked with my husband's coworker. I really need to buy shoes ... cowboy boots are not your ideal walking shoes ;).

So hard to stay motivated when your whole body aches, but I know it will eventually go away, especially once I get some better shoes. Thankfully I have the motivation of getting Chase to shed some pounds as I know it's not good for him (I mean being overweight for me isn't good, but we all know we clearly put animals before us ;)).

I'm jealous you get to run Losteh. I used to hate it, then found I actually loved it, but I hyperextend my knee and running is a big no no :(

If someone wants to create a group, I'm game :) But I would call it maybe something other than "Weight loss" as I'm sure there are a lot of fitness lovers on EV who may not necessarily be trying to lose weight but gain muscle/stay in shape :) Nonetheless, I love the idea of something like that!

I'm at the gym 5 days a week (just got back, actually). My ultimate goal is to get my NPC card and do fitness competitions. So right now, I'm really trying to tone/bulk up.

I am probably one of the more rare fitness lovers who isn't ashamed/feels guilty about eating things like pastas and sugar. Self-control and moderation is key!

I LOVE frozen veggies, though Losteh! I have a freezer packed full of them. I like heating up a big bag and just popping them in the fridge and munching on them throughout the day. Broccoli is one of my favorites followed by sugar snap peas. But I keep a wide variety in there.

I also always am stocked up on quinoa, brown rice, and ground turkey. Another one of my favorite go-to's is frozen precooked chicken. You can buy them as chicken breasts, shredded, or cubed. I pop those in a skillet (NO OIL!) and eat it with some rice and veggies as well.

My biggest advice is to set small but reachable goals. Like, "this week, my goal is to walk 5 miles total." Totally achievable and it doesn't matter how you reach that 5 miles. Then the next week, up it to 6 miles, and so on.

I recently purchased a Fitbit Blaze to have all my steps, workouts, food-intake, etc. all in one place. Something like that (you can buy step counters for MUCH cheaper if you don't want a Fitbit) will really help. Like I have my step goal for each day set to 20K. A few days ago, I still have 3K steps left to reach, so in between commercial breaks, I would jog in place. Totally hit my 20K goal by the time Big Bang Theory ended. :)

I'll stop rambling now as I could go on forever about all of this. I'm super passionate about fitness and living a healthy lifestyle! I'd be happy to create that group if y'all would like?

Go for it Gaia!

The running thing, I've never really liked because when I go too long my arms and legs go numb. But that usually happened in high school where you were forced to run farther than you were able, so hopefully I won't get that

And I'm not really trying to lose weight so much as trying to lose a bit of the chub. I think I gain weight in the stomach, thighs, and booty so I don't look different in the mirror but magically my pants start fitting tighter and shirts are not very adorable anymore lol I'm not concerned with how much I weigh or how big my waist is, I just want to fit the clothes I have better and if I get smaller than that, hallelujah.

I definitely have chicken breast in the freezer (I just need to plan far enough ahead to have it thawed lol) so I might make that sometime!

And I've been considering a FitBit, but I want to get into exercising more before I look into one.

I'm a fitness coach who is inactive because my social anxiety prevents me from talking to people. Even though I'm not hosting FB accountability groups or selling products, I still follow my programs for my own health. There have been small and slow improvements since I started because I'm basically sedentary for the 23.5 hours I'm not working out every day. I'm not "overweight", but I have been losing extra flub because, seriously, I want to not be embarrassed whenever I wear a bathing suit... I do have a weight goal, but that it going to be difficult to reach since I've been replacing all the fat weight with muscle weight *sigh*. I follow a healthy eating guide, and I can make up a graphic to use in the group if anybody would be interested.
