Hello Everyone!
I thought I would make a post about a project that I am currently working on and maybe inspire some people as well. So, I am working on the Red dress project for a library display and the theme is going to be the Red Dress Project which to me is very inspiring! You may have heard about this project before or maybe you haven’t heard of it but it’s a pretty interesting topic to read about.
About the project:
This project began in 2010 and it commemorates murdered and missing indigenous women that are from the First Nations, Inuit, Metis and Native American communities by hanging empty red dresses in a range of different environments. This project has also inspired people to use red to draw attention to the issue of MMIW and promoted the creation of Red Dress Day.
The project seeks to collect 600 red dresses by community donation that will later be installed in public spaces throughout Winnipeg and across Canada as a visual reminder of the staggering number of women who are no longer here with us.
What do the red dresses symbolize?
The meaning of what the red dresses symbolize is pretty interesting, Red relates to our life blood and that connection between all of us, and it symbolize both vitality and violence. The red dresses are also to help honor, remember and bring awareness towards the issue of Missing and Murder Indigenous Women and Girls.
I hope you were inspired after reading about this little project that I'm working on, I would love to hear what you think and if you were inspired by this.
