Arabian breeders help!

#227960 Posted on 2020-09-21 19:30:46

So I have been doing some thinking and I think I want to breed arabians. Now for what, I'm not sure so I have a few questions for Arabian breeders to help me on this.

What colors do you mainly go for?
I myself am thinking about Flaxen. What do you think about Flaxens?

Is solid a deal breaker for you?
Do you prefer solid, sabino, or do you just not care?

What specialty?
I am thinking endurance but I'm not sure how many active breeders there are.

Do you breed to outside lines or buy outside lines?
If so what do you think the market looks like to you

What do you look for most with your Arabians?
With buying or breeding your own stock

Thank you in advance!

I'm breeding Arabians, have a small herd beside my TBs!

Personally, I love flaxen and sabino (and black!) Arabians since the most of them are solid and simple chestnut/bay/gray.

My Arabians are into Endurance, so I can support you choosing this specialty!

I'm always looking for outside blood. The horse must be Endurance-bred and have clean lines (not inbred as well).

I'm looking for breeding my own stock, but always look for buying horses which I can introduce to my herd or breeding to outside horses which meet my requirements.

I love Arabians, they’re one of my favorite horse breeds, so I’m certainly support your interest.

Dressage is another good discipline for Arabians other than Endurance. My Arabians are currently locked since I’m focusing on Mustangs now but I do agree on being pro-Flaxen. Anything else regarding coats I prefer trying to get as much combination as I can - I like seeing what combos I can get and I’m not a fan of gray because eventually I won’t be able to look at those combos. I prefer to focus on color, conformation, points and stats because I’m crazy like that though if I had to chose color would be my first go to. I like to breed my own lines but I also occasionally bring in others that I’ve bought/rescued or another’s player’s horse to breed mine with for some diversity.

I hope this helped. :)

I've got a super small but good quality herd of endurance Arabians bred specifically to be grey. I just love to watch as they gradually change their colour !
I also love black Arabians. I have a couple of blacks in my spare account and just decided that any foals, which turn out to be bay instead of grey, I'm going to keep and try breeding them into blacks eventually.
My main focus is to breed for lowest NSS
I absolutely adore flaxen Arabians, so would be the first to buy from you low nss flaxens !

Ive just realised that I hadn't really answered your questions, so here it goes:

What colors do you mainly go for?
I myself am thinking about Flaxen. What do you think about Flaxens?

grey and black; I adore flaxens

Is solid a deal breaker for you?
Do you prefer solid, sabino, or do you just not care?

solid; I will neither buy nor breed to sabino; just really don't like sabino in Arabians

What specialty?
I am thinking endurance but I'm not sure how many active breeders there are.

endurance; however in my spare I have quite a few blacks with nss pointing towards jumping, so I might sway in this direction when I finally unlock them

Do you breed to outside lines or buy outside lines?
If so what do you think the market looks like to you

so far didn't get a chance to breed to outside lines because every time I needed to breed there were none available; however I bought one lovely grey from Sabriel - I'm very happy that they also breed grey endurance Arabians and I check on their horses now and again :)

What do you look for most with your Arabians?
With buying or breeding your own stock

would be nice to have some committed and reliable low nss endurance breeders around; I would definitely check on their stock whenever I'd need some fresh blood to inject to my grey/black project and I'd definitely be happy to buy some low nss flaxens in the future

I have just started a herd of RC Arabians but they are being raised in Western, because I like rare things!

I used to breed them when I first started 9years ago but they were in Racing & I wasn't into the old breed art so I sold them. But now I'm back into the breed.

I am looking to raise Solids mostly and would like a herd of blacks but most of the ones I got from the RC were chestnut.... which is handy coz they are my second favourite colour coat. I also dream of flaxen Arabians but that's a looooong way off.

I would breed to outside lines (if they exist) when I get to that stage (think my herd is 6yo) as long as the other persons horses didn't have super high NSS. I would buy outside lines on the same principle.

As to what I look for as with any breed I raise, are stuff like preferably a minimum of all goods in their Confo, not too high NSS & not inbred in their first 5 generations.

I have a small Arabian herd at the moment, but I want to focus on Western which is rare, and then conformation. I have always really liked the flaxens though, but I also love the variation of the Sabino

Thank you everyone! I got a lot more responses than I thought I would! I will keep all of this in mind as I am making my decisions. I am definitely thinking of having flaxen chestnuts and a black herd going. But still working on determining eveything else :)
