How do you pick breed/s?

#227430 Posted on 2020-09-04 01:58:40

Just curious as to how players pick a breed to focus on?
I tend to end up with anything pretty at the time (distractible city)
For those of yoy who have a certain focus - how and why and what discipline/stats/confo/colours are your other goals?

I usually pick the breeds I love the most (racing TBs, endurance Arabians). There was time when I tried to pick breeds on the basis of their look, but it didn't work out well since I couldn't stick to them (TWH) - my heart pulled me back to breeds I like in real life as well.

On the other hand, I love leopard coats, so decided not so long ago to buy some western Appoloosas (before the recode I had some Knabstruppers which I loved - all hail to spotty coats!).

I'm "hungry" for challenge, so my focus is to have clean, evenly lined horses with the possible highest stats, and I breed for conformation and NSS. I know it's much more then a complex goal, but I enjoy every minute of it. :)

As Olivia mention, I also picked the breeds I loved the most in real life, which was Quarter Horses and Andalusians. When I first joined I had every breed, but then cut it down to just 3 (QHs, Andys, and Clydes). Then now I'm just sticking to QHs and a lil side project of solid clydes going.

I stopped the Andys cause they were slightly expensive when going to shows so I moved them to another account I have.

Right now I'm breeding to lower nss and get higher conformation on some horses.

Hmm ok good to know. Thanks.
The breeds I am drawn to were all pre recode (Hanoverians and Percherons!)
I reme.be tthe Knabstruppers.
I guess I am not fussy enough, I like anything with an intereating pattern like Appies and Paints, but there are SO many of the American breeds, so I was trying to focus on gicinf the rest of the world a look in (represent!)
May up my numbers of Clydes for good old Glasgow...

In the beginning, sikora got me into western Morgans and it's my main project to this day XD
I'd say that otherwise I choose the breeds based on their looks, and I tend to stick to less popular breeds/specialties, I like to take in RC horses with 'weird' stat distribution. Bonus points if they look nice in tack (Pintos and Lippies look extra handsome in driving tack IMO), or have an unexpected twist to their specialty. Bonus points if they have a variety of colors so I can tell them apart (my main problem in TBs is breeding out gray). But generally, I have to like how they look like.

Just picked something based on balance of # of breed/discipline and now x years later I'm too invested to change.

I have Gypsy Vanners as my main focus. They are my favorite breed in real life and have my favorite art here as well. Any other breeds I have because I like the art or I found it was difficult to find public studs/broods available so started my own lines.
