ISO Morgan breeding partner?

#224339 Posted on 2020-06-16 14:52:16

Hey there,

I've got a few Morgan's, and I'm extremely lucky that six of them are all above 70 for their ave. conformation. However, this is going to make breeding difficult, as they are all related and I would like to try and avoid line-breeding as much as possible.

I was wondering if there was anyone out there who would like to either start breeding Morgan's or join me in helping to improve upon their current breeding stock.

TIA
Stormy

I'm dipping my feet into Morgans. They're both foundations, below 55nss, and over 60 for conformation. :)

Hello!
I took a look at them - honestly, they're so pretty, congratulations! :D Unfortunately I don't have any Morgans which'd score that high in confo - probably the highest I have so far is 62.00.
Are you committed to Dressage as their specialty? You have few foals which - looking at their stats - would be great competitors in Western (thinking especially about Lasair Camhanaich and Kareina, those two have very low NSS). If you'd be looking to specialise them in Western, I could look for a potential partner among my own horses - either those which hasn't been yet bred 5 times (not to overbreed them) or those which hasn't yet been bred at all.

If you prefer to expand your herd in the direction of a different spec, I can search on my spare account for some foundies over 60 confo - though it'll be hard to breed down the nss to make their offspring good showing horses.

I'm working on Endurance Morgans if you're into that. Aiming for low NSS and high conf. If those are your goals, let me know!

I breed endurance, show jumping and western morgans. Feel free to take a look at my Veterans division, all horses with $$ in their name are for sale. I don't progress on a regular basis tho, so they often disapear from horse search sales.
Bear in mind that getting any morgan with confo above 70 is almost a miracle. They are usually from old lines, some of them are ethernally locked, other are not likely to be sold by their owners. The higher the confo, the lower the chance. :/ Improving the conformation in current system is a long way project, especially if you don't overbreed. It's not unusual for foal to get confo 61 when parents are 62 or 63.
