How we plan to go ahead with Sunny is a very difficult choice. We have decided to play the wait-and-see game a little longer. Maybe that is cowardly of me but I am not ready to completely throw the towel in yet. Sunny's next farrier appointment is at the end of the month. I want to see what my farrier thinks. If she improves after her trim, then I think we will continue to do the best we can for Sunny. If there is no improvement, it will be time to talk to our vet and see if she or someone at the clinic wants Sunny.
Sunny's foot angle is steeper on her right hind but she doesn't have excessive heel growth that comes with a club foot. But the way she does not want to put weight on her right heel is something commonly associated with a club foot. Since there are various grades of club foot, it could be Sunny is developing a grade 1 or 2 club foot? If it is a club foot she has going on, and we can make her sound through proper trims (at least on the hind foot), then that is something we can deal with as well. If it is a club foot and she is chronically lame on it, that will be a no go for us. *sigh*
I’m glad her knee is doing good, I’m so sorry that you are having a tough time with her. It breaks my heart, that she has another problem now. I was praying for Sunny for a speedy recovery! It must of have been a very tough decision for you and your husband to make.
I will not say goodbye to Sunny, but I will say, a good journey to her.
Thank you for your empathetic words. We haven't completely thrown in the towel, the future is hanging by a thread.
This morning she looked terrible. This afternoon, half decent. It is just so bizarre. *shakes head* Sunny would be a great study for prospective veterinary students. lol
Will try to post pictures tomorrow. Wait till you see the one I snapped of Sunny today! :)
So, the other day, I decided to mess with Sunny and a tarp, just for fun. And... she didn't care one bit. Trying to get her to come across was a bit of a game. Instead of sending her across, I tried to get her to come towards me of her own accord. She made it into a game where she was basically chasing me around the tarp. lol Silly girl! Of course, I did get her on the tarp and that wasn't an issue for her at all. Such a laid back girl!
Sunny has been upgraded from her tiny pen to our round pen for sleeping in and our backyard for grazing/daytime. And, since her fly mask doesn't fit well and the velcro is broken, it doesn't stay on her face very well. Sooo, Sunny invented her own was of keeping flies off her face....
Sunny, standing over our HVAC unit while the fan is blowing! No more flies! :p
Sunny really LOVES her scratches! On her neck. her back, her rump, chest, you name it, she wants a good rub!
Last one, a short clip of my playing with Sunny in our round pen today. This afternoon, she looked half decent soundness-wise. She is a character!
Oh, I just LOVE all these pictures!! And the clip of you playing with her is just too cute. It's amazing seeing her in action, such a nice bonus! That face...standing at the HVAC...she definitely is so pretty...and pretty smart too, I think. I'm very happy she was having a good day.
So glad you decided to wait a bit more...maybe time will really help whatever is wrong. And I think it will be interesting to hear what the farrier has to say.
Thank you so much for sharing her with us...she's a bright spot in any day!!
