Making a Throughbred poster for english class

#221948 Posted on 2020-04-29 14:33:12

Hey! So for English class my teacher wants me to do a poster on Thoroughbreds (I picked to do Thoroughbreds) because they are pretty interesting and I want to learn more about them so this is the perfect chance to learn about them!

I would like to know some interesting facts about racing or about thoroughbreds in general!

I also want to know what your favourite breed of horse is?
Mine would probably be; Dutch Warmbloods, Thoroughbreds and Quarter Horses

Thanks,
Tall Oak

I few things I know about TBs...

The most expensive racehorse ever sold was in 2006 called The Green Monkey for $16million USD. He never raced & did nothing at stud.

The fastest TB ever was a 2yo filly called Winning Brew who was clocked at speeds of 43.97mph

They store 1/3 of their red blood cells in their spleen which gets released into their bloodstream during fast exercise, essentially allowing them to run for longer.

Pretty amazing breed actually!

My fave breeds in RL are TBs / Dutch WB / Trakehners / Suffolk Punch

- They originated in England.
- They are hot-blooded.
- They were developed in the 17th-18th century of England.
- They are very energetic.
- The breed is traced back to three foundation sires; the Darley Arabian, the Goldophin Arabian, and the Byerly Turk.
- They are not the fastest horse in the world, even though people say they are.
- When Thoroughbreds retire from racing, they begin a studding career and breed with other Thoroughbred mares.
- They can start racing at the minimum age of 2 years.
- Thoroughbreds have a more-than-average accident rate.

And my favorite horse breed(s) in real life are the Quarter Horse, Arabian, Appendix, and Tennessee Walker.

All Thoroughbreds can trace their lineage back to 3 stallions, a Turk and two Arabians. (lol got beat to this while I was typing)

In the beginning, the average height of Thoroughbreds was 13.3 hands.

The first "American" Thoroughbred was retired due to a lack of competition.

Native Dancer's stud fee reached $1,000,000 before he passed away.

And actually, The Green Monkey raced 3 times but never won.

My favourite breed by a massive landslide is the Quarter Horse :D

Thoroughbreds are very inteteresting!

Thoroughbreds, for racing purposes, must be conceived by live cover. AI/clone made Thoroughbreds are not eligible for racing (at least here in the US, not sure about other countries).

Thoroughbreds are one of the few breeds that can exhibit "gulastra plum," which is  silver tail which experts think is caused by a sabino gene.

At full speed, a Thoroughbred can place 100x the force of gravity on each foot!

A Thoroughbred's average stride is 20 feet!

Thoroughbred's may not be the fastest breed, but they hold more world records than any other breed in the world.

Good luck with your poster!    :)

Every Thoroughbred in the Northern Hemisphere has the same birthday... January 1st. In the Southern Hemisphere, it's August 1st.

95% of all Thoroughbreds can be traced back to the undefeated 18th century stallion named Eclipse.

Edit; My favorite breed would have to be the Arabian!
