How to breed the "poor" out of conformation?

#220369 Posted on 2020-04-06 17:08:22

Hi guys!

Is there a certain "formula" to breed for better conformation?

For example, when my horse Lower Gravity  hits 20 years old Id like to breed him. He has one "poor" in his conformation, a 47.48 withers. From what I've experienced there is no guarantee that if I breed him to a mare that has at least a "good" for withers that the foal wont get the poor from the stud. How do I go about off setting poor conformations?

Thank you :)

I try to breed "poors" to 65 or higher in that section... I haven't found a fool proof way but it does work for me alot... when I used to worry about Confo more then I do now.

when improving conformation, your best bet is to find a mate that has the highest possible score in the area that your horse is weak in. there’s no magic formula, so breeding multiple times can also be helpful. i managed to breed a line of post-recode foundations up to 66 in total confo, so the general conformation equation does seem to lean toward producing a higher confo scored foal than the parents, but it’s a pretty slow process (took me at least 6 gens to get that high haha)
