How is it, in tv and movies, when the new kid starts their first day at a new school, everyone already has their cell number?

I never noticed that! I guess I'm just too used to seeing a phone in everyone's hand and don't pay attention. Funny, because I'm always finding details that don't match up. I'm better at medical shows I guess lol.

Has anyone else ever wondered about commonly used expressions? Like "I have more ______ than I can shake a stick at!" ... why would you want to shake a stick at anything?

I think a lot of those have meanings that used to make sense. For example the expression saved by the bell, in the 1800s people use to have a bell outside their grave, attached by a rope to their hand and watchers stayed in the graveyard. This went on for 3 days just incase the person was unconcious not dead. If they moved the bell rang thus they were saved by the bell.

@Bonnie:: I actually did know that one. It also brought about the expression "dead ringer".

What is the point of locking your convertible when you've left the top down? I've never understood that.
