OMG! My first rodeo!

Yall! My mom has FINALLY agreed to let me do some rodeos!!!!!! :D 

So, as i do not own a horse, my cousin has a horse. His name is lucky, he is a bay 11 year old quarter horse gelding. He does western and has done some English too. We have used him for pole bending, barrel racing, trail rides and all sorta of things. So, she has said i could use him in the rodeos i enter. There is one thing we have to do first you will see what that is as you read on :)

I JUST bought me a new rope(aka lasso). I got it at our local tractor supply which is by far my FAVORITE store in the WHOLE WORLD. But, my mom used to rope and i have learned and am getting really good. I have been practicing on my brother, fence post, tree stumps, and just about anything i can get it around. I have been practicing moving and throwing it and have gotten really good(Not trying to brag). 

Now, i can also do poles and barrels. So, i dont know if i want to do roping, pole bending or barrel racing. So, comment below with your favorite, and whichever gets the most votes i will do! And my cousin, aunt or mom are gonna rope with me if i choose that. My cousin is getting a new horse within the next couple days(its a Tennessee walker) so if we do roping we are all set!

I need tips from you guys to help calm my nerves, know what to do, which event is the best, what to practice, how to get the horse used to the rope if he isn't which i will update soon, which type of spurs to wear, all the things i might need to know!!!!!!

If you can move your horse easily without spurs, then first off, you don't need spurs.  Second, if you are into roping, try it first.  I don't do roping, personally, but I've dealt with barrel racing, pole bending, and flag racing.  But I honestly feel roping suits you if you have others to rope with you and you are good at it.

Also, you want to make sure the horse is okay with your roping and the fast pace at the same time so they don't clash and the horse'll spook.  You'll need to know the time that you'll be showing so you can get there on time and prepare.  Get there about an hour early, I'd say so you can warm up, clean your horse, and do whatever you need to do.

When they call your name to get ready, BE READY!  When they do call out your name for 'in the hole' or 'thinking about it,' be standing near the chute (over to the side) so you aren't as far away.  And talk to your horse, mostly.  If you have nerves then your horse can learn off of you and get nervous as well.  So talk to him about your nerves or even sing (that's what I do sometimes).

Ok, thank you so much! I think i will need some soft spurs just to make sure because he tends to get a little cranky sometimes and not want to listen so i will use some soft spurs. I talked to my cousin and the horse is not good with ropes, sooo, pole bending or barrel racing it is. 

Well, then barrel racing would be the next best choice.
