Culling opinions

#212000 Posted on 2019-10-28 22:53:26

I seriously am having a dilemma at the moment. I'm done with breeding my older horses that aren't retired yet and they aren't going to be up for stud/brood anymore.

Do you think it would be wrong to cull them so I can work with some other horses?

Not at all. To me, it sounds like the most effective thing to do. I was thinking of doing same thing with my Welshes when they are older. I simply don't have time to work with a large number of horses. So if a group has seved their purpose, time to move on to the next group.

Best of luck!    :)

Maybe you should consider how will those culled horses feature in the pedigree..? Everybody always mentions in forums that apparently some players are picky when it comes to the pedigree and don't like deceased horses there...so maybe culling might affect your future stud/brood takings...?

Yes, I was just thinking about "how" they show. Maybe it says "deceased" and this might put off some people. I don't know. I personally wouldn't worry but just thought I'd mention it, just in case....

Well, yo could retire them in the rescue center, or drop them off there. You don't have to, a lot of people don't just saying that is another available option.

retiring them via the rescue center doesn’t show them as “deceased” in the pedigree.

Here is a foal of mine, for example. every horse in his pedigree was retired after producing the next generation. clicking on their individual page does show them as deceased, but it doesn’t affect pedigree at all.
