I have a cheapest Wacom I was able to get few years ago, which is the smallest Intuos Pen&Touch. It's a good tablet, I've been using it day-to-day for four years now and it still responds without issue. My friend was using an old Wacom Bamboo for years.
The only thing which nowadays wears out quite quickly in Wacoms is the stylus' tip and that's a thing you need to replace one in awhile.

The size of a tablet you want to get largely depend on how you like to draw - I don't use big gestures and draw mainly with my wrist (bad habit, I know) so I'm fine with the smallest one, the size of A5. It's also a cheapest size, which is convenient to me XD In case of Wacom the good thing is that it's usually thought of as a "default" brand, so it's largely compatible with software.

I've heard a lot of good things about Huion - which are generally a cheaper brand - too, but I don't remember which model in particular, so I'd need to ask my friend who uses it about her opinion.

For the better part of 6/7 years, I used a wacom bamboo create. the only issue I ever had with the thing was the connector had to be soldered back on. And once that was back, it still worked like new. I HIGHLY recommend an old bamboo from wacom. Those things... man. They work and work and work for YEARS! And they're up and happy to work the very next day. They shouldn't be be much more than 60 on ebay if your vigilant. Currently I use a wacom cintiq 21ux? ( I forget the model) He was roughly $400 - $450 after shipping/insurance etc. I'm a wacom fan girl and fully recommend them. I've used and own  a large collection of boards from them from a year ago intuos to graphire(graphite?) I recommend if you go the wacom route, to find an older board. Most up-to- date PCs will actually go and download the driver for you and even if they don't, wacom has all the older drivers on their site too so you don't have to worry about having the installation disk( Unless you want to show off I guess lol)

On that note however, I have heard very very good things about hurion. the only bad thing that I've heard, is that some programs don't support it, but I think by now, that's not as much of an issue. You could also look into xp-pen. I've heard decent things. they're smaller and newer so I haven't heard much.

I have not worked with either so unfortunately, I can't write you a book on them unlike with wacom.

I'd recommend doing your research, read and watch TONS of reviews!
