#207275 Posted on 2019-08-11 09:56:46

I want to try doing some art but I've no idea how. I have a tablet and a laptop. What do I use? How do I bring it to this site? How would I sell the art here? I need help hahaha

As far as how and what to use I dont know, but i can help you with the rest.

You sell it on the forums under the character sales, or tag and signature sales depending on what your selling. Characters are full size horses that are colored either to match a preexisting character or a new custom. Tags are 150×150 pixels and they are what is displayed above our name when we post. Signatures, I dont remember the size but they are what come after our posts on forums. Depending on quality and difficulty art can sell from between 50k and millions.

To get it on the site you can upload it to a place such as Imgur and then add the links to the forum post. Hope this helps ^.^

Definitely does! Now just have to figure out what I have to use. I draw on paper, I know the two are different but I really want to have a go at it

I don’t know much about digital art but I highly recommend gimp or firealpaca as they are free for download, if you draw on paper you could always upload a picture of your drawing and make the lines digital using layers. This would work by having your drawing on one layer and having another layer to ‘trace’ over your drawing. I’m not great at explaining but I’m sure it would be worth a shot!

I have done art here and on other SIM sites for the past 8 years, here are a few things to help you.

You're on the right track with a laptop and a tablet. I highly recommend a lot of practice. Use your tablet as if it were your mouse for a few days or a week just so that you can get used to it.
There are a TON of digital art programs.

If you have the budget, look into; Photoshop, Paint tool Sai, Affinity designer and clip studio paint.

If you don't have the budget, look into; GIMP, Fire Alpaca, Medibang Paint, Krita, and Sumo Paint if you need something browser based.

Choose your program ( Or programs if you're feeling plucky) and practice. Learn your program. Doodle something and mess with settings and filters.

Practice.
Practice drawing what you want, practice shadows, practice backgrounds etc.
Practice using your chosen program.
Have fun with it! Digital art is supposed to be fun.

Here's how to get it onto the site:

  • When you are done with what you are drawing, save your final image as a copy as a PNG or JPG ( also shown as jpeg sometimes)

  • Then upload it to a third party image hosting site like Deviant art, Imgur, and Gyazo.

  • Then copy the image URL that the site you uploaded to gives you and paste it into the forum post you are making. - Like So -

I hope that this helps and If you need any further help, feel free to message me (I may not reply right away though lol )

Just checking, you have a drawing tablet, not something like an iPad, right? Very different things. :P

yooo, Syrien. Completely forgot iPads were a thing xDD

So yeahhhh. Don't do the mouse thing I suggested then lol that's for a drawing tablet xD But I think most of the other things except programs still apply.

If you're looking to get a drawing tablet, do your research and look on ebay for a cheap one. I recommend wacom, and they shouldn't be more than $40-60 on Ebay. Just make sure you find one with the pen.

for a graphics tablet the Huion H610 pro is pretty good, and i've heard Procreate is a good app for iPad, you just want something that has layers.
