FIDELITATUS 



Welcome to New Pennsylvania. Leaders of opposing ideas have split the state in half, creating a divide among the people.

One side, called Permanence, believes in keeping things as they are. They don't explicitly denounce the other side, but it is heavily implied that they are enemies. They believe in sustaining the peace, for the most part, and won't fight unless provoked. These are people who use their words to fight more than weapons. Permanence has one leader, and everyone defers to her. Their motto is "conditio existentium," or "existing condition."
The other side, The Refinement, wants to change the way things are. They don't think that one person should make the decisions for a group, and outwardly oppose Permanence. They tend to go on the offensive, and rely less on diplomacy. They are headed by a democratic council, where everything must be voted on. Their motto is "convertere propter maius bonum," or "change for the greater good."
The only thing keeping the state from an all-out war is the government. Think of them like a parent who occasionally steps in to make the kids play nice together. The government has installed an exchange program, where members of each side spend one week every other month on the other side of the state, and declared the capital city neutral ground.

People who have not declared loyalty to one side or the other are free to move around the state as they please, but once they do, they usually stay within their side's borders.

You are a student at one of the official schools set up by either side, specializing in a field of your choice, from diplomacy to historian to scientist, to one day be given an official position in your organization.

Name: Tesla Ann Marie Young, Tess

Age: almost 17

Gender: female

Description: (Not mine) Tesla has light skin and dark brown hair that almost looks black, cut in a medium length bob. She has a dusting of freckles on her face. She's 5' 1.5" and usually wears a graphic tshirt with some sort of science-y pun or sarcastic comment on it, ripped jeans, and polka-dotted converse in a variety of colors, and probably has reminders or notes scribbled on her arms in her own patented washable sharpie. 

Personality: If there is one word for her, it's difficult. She gets bored easily, especially with people, and finds that she doesn't really relate with people. Most of the time, people don't know what she's talking about, and she hates explaining herself. She enjoys experimenting with potentially dangerous ideas and is a huge science geek, from physics to biology. Even when she isn't in her lab, she's probably doing research or watching an experiment via facetime. Tesla is really unpredictable and she takes suggestions, not orders. Her catchphrase is "I know, and I don't care."

History (optional): Her parents were both scientists as well, but they died of mysterious causes. Tesla wants to continue their work and do some of her own.

Name: Florence Louise Fitzgerald
Age: 20
Gender: Female
Description: Florence is an average height, and slender. She has slightly wavy blonde hair that is cut to her chin, and never seems out of place. She has large blue eyes and a mischievious grin. She wears stylish, short dresses when not at work.
Personality: Florence is spunky, cheeky, mischievious, and proud. She's quick to anger, but otherwise very fun to be around. Some may call her shallow, but she just wants to have a good time.
History: I'll think of one maybe

Name: Rawiya Amaal Tawfiq
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Description: Rawiya is around 5' 5", and has a delicate structure. She's got straight black hair and proud eyebrows, though she usually looks exhausted, not proud. She wears faded clothes. Rawiya has almond shaped, dark brown eyes.
Personality: She is very determined and can be stubborn. Once she makes up her mind about something, she will do whatever she can to accomplish it. Rawiya is humble and tries not to admit that she did something helpful. She's very quiet, but she observes nearly everything that's going on. She always seems tired.
History: Rawiya and her family moved from Cairo, Egypt to Riga, Latvia when she was a year old. Although Rawiya can speak Arabic, she prefers Latvian. However, bad things happened to the family all the time. Rawiya's younger sister died at age 5, when Rawiya was 9. Their house burned a year later, and then Rawiya's other sister developed cancer. When she was 16, Rawiya became pregnant with a failed relationship, and the father refused to acknowledge that he would become a father. When Rawiya turned towards her parents, they pushed her away, ashamed of their daughter. Furious, Rawiya gathered her stuff and moved to New Pennsylvania, as she no longer wanted to be in the country where so much bad things had happened. She chose to live in New Pennsylvania because of the cheap houses, as nobody really wanted to be in the area. And then…all the bad luck her family had began to disapear. Her daughter was born. She was accepted into the school. She got a better-paying job, though she still struggles for money.

Name: Guntra Raabia'a Liega Tawfiq
Age: 3 
Gender: Female
Description: Guntra, or Liega as she's more oftenly called, looks just like her father. She has curly blonde hair and bright blue. She's always smiling and her face is always sticky. She is tall for her age, again like her father.
Personality: Cheerful and loves people. Liega is very friendly and not shy at all. She is slightly spoiled and wants to get her way at all times. Liega rarely has a temper tantrum…but if she does, watch out! She is almost as stubborn as her mother, and very adventrous and curious.

Name: Nik Lee

Age: 17

Gender: Male

Description: Nik is mixed race, with a Korean mother and American father, and is 5'5" short with a slim build. His hair is naturally black, but is often dyed another color. It is currently a pastel pink and has an unstyled look, with bangs hanging down to just above his eyes. His eyes are brown, however it is not uncommon for him to be seen with colored contacts in. If he had the money, he would have a questionable number of them, but he currently only has a few. Nik is usually seen wearing some sort of fashionable outfit, though he goes for a more casual style. He doesn't always have name brand clothes (aka he very rarely has name brand clothes), but does well with what he does have. He is not above wearing makeup and often uses it to complement his current eye color.

Personality: Extra and dramatic; very expressive and excitable; will fight™; "I'm not short I'm vertically challenged"; extrovert

History: Nik is the only child of Zacharias Lee and Mi-young Kim. His family had a farm that Nik often helped out with when he was even smaller than he is now. They never had an excess of money, but when Nik was 10, his mother got sick and they were forced to sell the farm. Fortunately, the treatments were effective and his mother survived, but they've continued to struggle financially since then. Nik worked as soon as he was able to in order to help his family, but now is pursuing his dream.
