Realistic Racehorse Breeders and Racers?

#202453 Posted on 2019-04-21 23:00:59

So I've been looking around online at different famous racehorses, and I have noticed they all show for usually four to five years. I've started implementing this rule on my herd.Β

I race until 7 years old. If they have earned that yellow 100 placings ribbon they'll run till 9 years old. Any stallions who don't hit that 100 placings get gelded at this age, and set aside with any mares that fail too in a 'not for breeding' devision.

Does anyone else do this to try and get a good bloodline going? I figure if they place at least 100 times the line can only get better down the track, right?

I have never thought of this before, I personally dont breed tbs but it might be a good idea to implement this in my own horses lines.Β

This is an intriguing idea. I would love to hear if you find an impact on your stock in the future from this cull method.Β  Β  :)

I have known a few others to do similar practice with their racing thoroughbreds. They race until 7-10 then retire to breeding and riding school.Β  I never followed up on how their horses did doing this so not sure if they kept up with or not.Β

I'll be breeding my champions only, and probably up to three times to get the best foals possible, and hopefully avoid them dudding.Β
I dont know if it will make an impact in game with my horses, but it will be interesting to see.
I'm riding schooling them once they retire, and will continue treating, but my foals will be born in the three weeks after that last showing day.

i've got racing arabians rather than racing tbs, but i am planning on incorporating something like this in my low NS stat lineΒ for an extra challenge. i'll be retiring (and breeding) my second gens after they've all gotten 3 ribbons.Β

i can't imagine there is a gameplay benefit, but i like the idea of being able to say my racing arabian line are all "proven award winners":P

Vanity Estate is in the house too!

I'm running a realistic Thoroughbred racing stable. I try to hold on to the allowed TB studbook colors as much as possible and the horses race till their 10'th since thats usually the maximum age real TB's are set for racing. 10 years old mares with a 100'th race placings medal will be retired & set for brood. Other mares will be sold. I'm not quite sure what I'll do with stallions.
