Sketching for Motivation {Updated}

Title says it all. I have a couple backgrounds I should be coloring but it's just kind of... not happening? Periodically I just kind of lose the ability to art. Hoping to do double duty of shaking me out of my funk AND helping me practice creating more detailed backgrounds I started doing some sketches.
I may or may not end up ever doing something with them but they're kind of helping.
I'm trying to not slip into my comfort zone of wide expansive landscapes with mountains, sky and a field. (Read: Almost all the art I've done in the past forever. :/)

I thought I'd post them here as a little sketch diary of sorts and for critique if anyone would like. :)

Went through and fill colored in these two because I love the concepts. I so don't have time for this haha ;-;


I tried something new today! I was avoiding work at all cost so I decided to challenge myself to only spent 5-10 minutes on concept and sketching for each one plus doing the magical theme I wanted to do before. It. killed. me. I only made it past 3 of them- about 20 minutes of sketching total. They're so messy. ;_; It was kind of fun and I really like the first and third one! Even if they're a mess. lol

I'm a little concerned about where you'd get the other 3 (or 4 o.o) souls, Zell! lol
I may or may not ever finish them. I sometimes have issues with motivation or (currently) talent. :c Maybe I'll sell the sketches? Idk

That's why I made the first two, Cinch! I suck at drawing people so that was also good practice. :)

I may try more "magical" settings next. I'm usually pretty stuck on realism!

They are all amazing! I love the ship one and the carriage!


Please, please, please, offer recolors at some point. Or collab!

Ahhhhhhh! The ancient roman looking sig sized thing on the bottom looks so cool! I really like the background you have sketched there. The building is awesomeee. The awkward sideways stairs are weird but everything else looks so nice and well thought out. Like they're just coming to the city through the archway and passing some important landmarky thing like tha s3nate or whatever.
And I love your realisticness abilities so I'd love to see something with some magical influnce. More magic for everyone! Merlin apporves. XD

Thanks, Sabriel! The stairs are weird because stairs are my enemy. That's why there's stairs in 3/4 of them. To torture myself! lol The angles.. they're never right. *shudders*
We'll see how the magic goes. I'm going to try coloring tonight but if that fails then I'll do more sketches.. haha

Ohhhh man, I'm scared to see if you ever decide to sell that siggy... I don't think I would be able to afford it.

Those sketches are drool worthy, I would LOVE to see them shaded and colored ♥

I have freckles, so I'd be glad to share some souls with Zell.
After all, we gingers have no souls, so we just collect the souls of others to make freckles.

Sasan - I'm totally down for doing recolors on #1 and #2 if you ever get round to greyscaling them ;)

When I get back from my trip in May I'm going to try coloring several of these so I'll keep that in mind, Cinch! lol

I love the lady with the horse looking at the castle the most but the ship on and sig would be amazing too :D I would want one of each hehe or I would love to collab
