Breeding Formula

#201086 Posted on 2019-03-07 09:37:20

So my understanding is that a foals stats will be an average of the parents stats (at least when it comes to NS)

I just had someone breed a stallion to one of my mares and the resulting foal is much lower then I believe it should have been. What's going on??

Mare
NS:
3
3
3

Stallion
NS:
4
3
5

So I would think the NS of the foal should be:
3
3
4

But....

Foal
NS:
2
1
2

Instead of a total of 10 it's a total of 5, what the heck is going on?? Is this a glitch or something? Because stuff like this never happens to me :(

The other horse probably has lower base stats that it's current stats show. Foals tend to inherit current stats that are higher than base stats if there's a discrepancy between the base and current stats of the parents, so it might show 10ns but it's base might actually be 5ns.

Interesting, I didn't think the base stats came into play, or it wouldn't be such a big deal to cube or mistreat horses?

Both the base stats and the current stats of the horse determine base stats of the foal.

Once you cube a horse and breed it, or cross with a different discipline, it raises the total base stats, which is harder to breed down/"fix" than if a horse was cubed through it's lifetime then converted to it's base stats before breeding.

That makes sense! Thanks for explaining that, Maple.

The exact breeding formula, and a calculator that allows you to accurately predict your foal stats, can be found here. Hope this helps. :)
