Hello 3 Years Too Late ...

#199265 Posted on 2019-01-29 06:23:58

Hello to everyone!

I'm Corvidae (corv if you wish,) the girl who signed up in 2016 ....and that was literally as far into it as I got. I vaguely recall attempting to play but couldn't get into it at the time. This was also during the old art/no art. Upon coming to the site again, i'm shocked and in absolute love with all the art! Everything on here is pretty smooth and gorgeous looking. I cannot get enough!

I'm a 20-some year old on the east coast. I do not usually get much sleep as i'm a full time mom to a nearly 3 month old,she does not let me sleep lol.  But that means time to play here when i can between everything! I also have 2 dogs, 5 cats, and a now retired to light work bay thoroughbred mare. I've ridden since 6, exclusively english besides messing around. Jumper and that's where this heart stays. I very much hope to go back to school again soon for forensic pathology. I began with the goal of veterinary technician but truthfully, it wasn't for me. Kudos to any of you techies, you're troopers. I love horror, anime, and soft blankets with hot tea. I don't bite and honestly would love to make friends here. The community seems incredibly nice. :)

I've played sims since being a young teen, from howrse to avh to vhr to hp. Mostly the last 3 years though i've only played over on Eqcetera - but I got bored over there and took a hiatus. Instead of running back i've found myself here! I did do the tutorial, read the help tabs. Still could use any and all advice shoves in the correct direction though. Especially on what age foundations to buy and what to do if purchasing < 3 year olds.  ^^' I plan to work with Trakehners in show jumping, and Thoroughbreds in racing. I'd like 3 breeds to start (yes, i enjoy biting too much off immediately lol) but unsure of 3rd so suggestions welcome.  I would ultimately like to do every breed in some way!  I know there's a 3 account rule so considering on another doing Gypsy Vanners, Welshes, and Chincoteagues. Then on last QH, Paints, maybe a random breed nobody cares much for. I would love any suggestions and potential partnerships/etc! :D definitely interested in learning strategies though to up horses to their highest potential before breeding.

I'm also in the market for a layout... desperate, really. I can't stand having a naked profile haha.

I'm super excited for my journey here, hopefully we become friends or do business in some way soon enough!

Buying foundations at 0 years allows you to complete foal training, which assigns more stats when you choose a discipline. Starting with 3 year olds doesn't make much of a difference in terms of end of life stats if you play it right but will be disadvantaged at the start of showing.

Those are good breeds to start with, and good disciplines. If you do go with Welsh ponies, I'm forever looking for people to join me with driving ponies c:.

There's a free layout generator here that you could use to tide you over in the search for a custom layout (not many people make them these days). You do have to be a deluxe member to use a html layout though.

Best bit of advice starting out would be to start small if you plan on showing and handpick their shows to maximise chances of winning, you'll lose more than you'll win at first. Make sure to have 5/5 upgraded tack. Whenever I have a group of foundations I'll school and train them until 12 years old (when they reach max training level) and then release them into shows. If you're just schooling horses to gain exp quicker, then the more the merrier.

Feel free to send a message if you need anymore help. c:

Welcome here! :)
It's always great to see new faces among us!

Maple said almost everything which is important, I think.

If you buy < 3 yo foundations, pay attention to their foal training. Every day try to train them in different areas (where there is a possibility and there is not only 1 training aspect) since it ensures that your 0 year old foal will get the maximum stats from foal training in the end (about 55-56 stats?).

As a Thoroughbred breeder, I'm over the moon that you chose TBs as one of your starting breed. :)

Thank you both for the tips!

Maple - would a set of 3 y/o and 0 be a decent idea? I've sold credits and plan to sell more for the cash to purchase slots/dividers/horses/items...basically trying to set myself up to begin progressing asap.  I definitely wanted driving Welshes ....and now think I might pop some into another account. I just didn't wanna do something I'd struggle to be able to breed/sell honestly.

So are you doing the training and then group lessons? I'm still a bit lost on the whole training/lessons aspect, and how it interferes with daily showing. I'll prob just need to pm you... xc

Sheila - now i'm more confused aaah. I was reading to only work with the 2 stats you need for the discipline you plan to do,otherwise you're setting yourself up for failure basically? So wouldnt working all 6 do more harm than good? D:

I love my TBs already! I pulled i think 3(?) Above 60 confo scored which from what I've gathered is very nice to have for a foundation. I think. I'm hoping to get more color in though... i'm not a huge fan of chestnut in general but it seems to be what i get. :/

Also !!

Do either of you think holding a layout contest with credits as prizes would get people out making them? Granted my brain pictures a manip and whatnot but I will tempt with whatever i must lol.

It's up to you, personally I use 0 years for maximum stat potential, those couple extra weeks make a difference for showing.

Driving Welsh ponies are a little bit of a niche breed discipline, so I wouldn't expect to sell lots of them (I had a 4th Gen 1300+ stat for sale it's whole lifetime and never sold it). Welsh ponies aren't popular at all lol, most of the current ones in show jumping and dressage come from the same old lines from before this version on Equiverse.

Training doesn't interfere with riding school. You train to increase your training levels and your stat boost meter, the higher the level the less amount of luck you have in shows (as you need less) and the more likely you are to win. You can either put your horse in the riding school for the day or show it, both use the same slots.

When you get your stat boost from foal training, it's split evenly into whichever discipline you choose. So +25 Spd and +25 End for Racing set horses for example. Same for your stat boots through training.

You understood the stat-discipline connection very well. :)

Maybe it's more simple if I explain it like that: the foal training differs from the usual training which you do to your 3 < yo horses.
Every week, you can train your foal for a different area, and every day for a different aspect. For example, a 1 yo foal can be trained in 6 areas (Road training, Trail loading, Desenzitization, etc) and the best method to gain the most stats split for the discipline you choose in the end, if you vary the areas and choose every day another area to train in (so not just road training every day).

And yes, it's great! Unfortunately most of the foundies I have got also grey, chestnut or bay, but sometimes you can get a lucky black or cream one (or use some credit items to get the colour you wished for). :)

With the layout contest I really don't know, because I'm not an often visitor in those threads. :( But I think it's always worth at least trying, maybe it catches somebody's eye.

Hello and welcome!!

When I buy from the EC I'll get 0 year olds, but I'll also pick up some nice rejects from the RC, usually those will be 3 years old. Not a huge difference but the boost from foal games is nice, but more expensive too.

I breed Dutch Warmbloods in dressage and show jumping, could always use more dressage breeders!

I would say the biggest thing is to just make sure you use the treats correctly so you don't end up with a bunch of extra stats where they won't help you for your discipline.

And I would definitely recommend checking out what horses people are selling that fit your requirements. Doing that was a huge help and major jump start to my show jumpers. I still have some foundations and foundation lines but having the "lined" horses is really nice to not have to wait a couple years to make your own.

Best of luck!

I think I can make do with Welshies not being the biggest hit. Honestly I just find them cute and look great on here with driving tack... lol. I pulled quite a few to start and they're over on my other account. c:

For now I've pulled sets of 3yo, because I am so impatient lol. However, will also be getting 0yo ones too but I couldn't not get up and started. Honestly I'm not expecting my first go to be impressive - learning the ropes yet I'm giving myself slack. I'm sure regardless I could keep them for my own personal show string once they're all done line wise. I'm not TOO concerned with sales at the moment. Hopefully it own't bite me in the butt though later.

I believe I've an understanding on training for the most part now! I've been doing my daily care, training x1, treat x1 (that boosts one of the 2 necessary ones of course!) and then riding school group lesson x10hr. It's giving me a heck of a bump up in level xp. Is it more useful to do each hour at a time, or just all 10 at once gives the same outcome? I haven't figured that part out yet lol. The foal training makes sense now that y'all explained it! Thank you so much! I just worry about spending extra on them and then ruining them anyway. D:

I've been trying to gauge my audience for things on here. Seems SJ is one of, if not the, most popular disciplines across the board! I've started up 3yo lines of KWPN, Traks, TBs, and Friesians on this account if anyone breeds such and has ones for sale! KWPN are dressage, Traks are jumping, TBs are racing, and Friesians are dressage as well. I did create another account for my Welshies that drive, and I'll be doing driving Walkers, and Gypsies as well on there I believe! Kinda trying to hit a bunch of things at once lol. Is Endurance really sought after at all in any breed? I feel bad leaving it out but honestly I don't see much Endy from what I've looked at. The Akhal Teke market seems quite full so I think I'll leave them out for now anyway. Perhaps pick them up eventually for Endurance.

Definitely see a lack of design sales art/layout wise which kinda sucks but I'll give it a go to find someone. I thought it'd be pretty decent going on here since it seems like a kinda active community! D:

You've all been incredibly helpful so far, and I am so thankful for it and your welcoming ways! I feel at home already haha.

If anyone wants to chat horses or in general pleeease PM me ! I'm super duper friggen excited to be here and actually doing something now on here. :)

There's no benefit to doing 1 hour slots x 10 over  1 x 10 hours, you'll end up with the same exp and less chance of treats doing them seperately.

Most popular breeds in Endurance are Tennessee Walkers (10 pages active in endurance compared to 2-4 pages for other disciplines) and Mustangs, Mustangs are also popular in Western. Akhal Tekes don't actually have a lot of big breeders, if you look at sales you'll find there's roughly 1 page of non-foundation horses and 2 pages of young foundations. I would recommend doing them in racing though, again from a sales point (sooties are really sought after too).

If you haven't joined already, EV has a live chat in the form of a discord server, there's always people online there. c:
