I write this from Hospital. On freakin xmas eve

#197811 Posted on 2018-12-24 16:24:04

Its not me in hospital; it'll be my grandma when we actually get her admitted. We have been here for 2hrs already... its busy with drunks as you would imagine at this time of year. Anyhoo my grandma has had yet another fall & has suspected broken/fractured ribs & a nasty gash on her head & as she is on blood thinners any bleeding cuts/wounds can be hard to stop & she could die if she loses enough blood naturally. Not that anyone seems to care in this place.

It's literally the 2nd xmas in a row she will be in hospital. Last year it was a fall which resulted in broken ribs & a fractured pelvis & then she developed pneumonia whilst in the hospital.

Needless to say xmas is somewhat spoiled now as who knows what time she'll be admitted (last time it was about 4am) and therefore what time I get back home & what time I Can be bothered to start cooking the xmas dinner.  I am seriously considering going away on vacation for next years xmas day. We already go away about the 29th Dec for 2 wks so whats another 7days?! At least I would get less hassle.

I have had my fill of 2018 in general & 2019 isn't due to start off much better. Another of my friends who goes by the name Raven since she was 2yo on account of her jet black hair (real name Imogen which she hates!) has had an old sports injury flair up & is due to have a hip operation the end of next Feb. And she is supposedly out of action for 3months while she recovers which may or may not ruin our planned trips away & theatre/festival schedule. This along with a potentially (depending how the cancer chemo hits her) ill Bex it's going to be a rough start. I wouldn't care but we aren't even that old! Lord help us when we hit old age if our bodies are falling apart now!

Anyhoo hope everyone else is having a better xmas time 🎄

@Zest - Thanks I need it!

@Bandit - I Thought that too so i must be super tough??!! To be fair there is no one else to do it... they were all out for xmas drinks & couldn't drive. This will teach me to stay sober!

UPDATE - my grandma will be hospital for the foreseeable future as it transpires she has fractured her hip in 4 places so she is getting an operation to repair it later today. She is far to old in my mind to probably even survive under the anaesthetic, which is always reacts very badly to anyway and even a small amount for routine ops puts her into intensive care for at least a week so who knows how long this is going to run. Then she usually develops Pneumonia after an op which isn't a big help.

 Then she'll need to learn to walk again as for some reason when  she is laid up off her feet for even a few days she sorta looses the ability to walk. Its like her legs don't remember they are legs. Theres nothing wrong with her mind so its not alzheimers & her forgetting how to walk its just soo strange! On the occasions Ive been sick in bed for several days I can still work my legs.

I will be praying for you grandma and your family!

One of the ladies I care for recently broke her hip and at age 89 we were not very optimistic about her having surgery, but she got through surgery well and is on the mend now. I will pray the same for your Grandmother!
