Question about breeding c:

#18130 Posted on 2016-03-11 22:58:20

Once again, coming to the stand with this old question of mine.

When do you breed your horses?
And, in no harshness, I don't want the simple answer of "whenever I want foals".

I want that calculated answer, of when the horses are predicted to be at their best.

I would also like to be able to breed them more than once. I think to do that, you breed at 18 or 17, then 20 or 21?

I'd breed them at 19 and 20 if I wanted the best foals. Horses retire at 21, so that'd be too late.

Don't they still have to cool down? How long does it take mares and stallions to cool?
And it's seven days between each aging, correct?

I usually breed at 19 & 20 also. Though on occasions its 18 & 20 if Im getting antsy!

I think its 5 days cool down for a mare. Though I may be wrong! which is just enough time for a for at 19 & again at 20 :)

Im guessing Stallions can be used once a day (or at least some of my individuals have been used by different players the day after one another)

It's a 7 day cool down for a mare. Gestation is 5 days, and then an additional 2 before she can be bred again.
Stallions are breedable immediately; no cool down at all.

You can still breed the day before your horses retire; the mare won't die before she gives birth or anything. But you won't be able to breed her again after she retires.

I usually aim for the day before they turn 20 and the day before they turn 21, with extra days earlier on if I'm trying for very specific genotypes.

As Wind says. Mares will die at 22 years old, now. :)

"I usually aim for the day before they turn 20 and the day before they turn 21," and that allows enough time for the cool down? Just want to double check. I was curious about doing it that way.

I'm struggling so badly to not breed my Dutchies right now. 2 weeks more... I can do this. xD

The day before they turn 21 does allow enough time for cool-down. As Wind said, cooldown is 7 days, and horses no longer die before 22 years old, so breeding the day before they turn 21 gives them those 7 days (5 days gestation + 2 cooldown days)
