Why aren't my horses placing well?

#178602 Posted on 2018-07-12 00:01:39

All my horses are trained and showed in Western, which based off their stats is what they excel in. They have pretty good stats, great confo, I feed, show, treat, and train them everyday, and make sure they have good tack, so why aren't they placing well in shows?

A lot of your horses have really high non-specialty stats meaning that the stats they have for the specialty that they’re in are lower compared to other horses.
I only show my horses when they’re near the top of their stat bracket so they win. I get around 6x the money I spent on shows.

I only looked at the first five horses in your Mare division, but I agree with Cazoo that the issue is most likely high non-speciality stats.

Many of your horses are being fed sugar cubes, which boosts stats more than regular treats, but the disadvantage is that those stats are random, and don't just boost the discipline specific stats. Having high non-discipline stats means your horses will not do as well as horses with lower non-discipline stats. Here's why:

Say your western horse Bob has 500 stats, with 100 each in STR, SPD, AG, INT, and END.
My western horse Sue only has 400 stats, but 180 of them are in SPD, 160 in INT, and 20 each in STR, AGI, and END

The show formula only counts discipline stats when doing the stats calculations, so Bob has 200 discipline stats and Sue has 340. So even though Bob's stats are higher overall, Sue has better stats for competition.

Switching to discipline specific treats will help you in the future, but unless you want to convert and re-convert all your horses, any that have over 75 non-discipline specific stats are not going to do especially well at showing. Their foals might though!
