Confused?

#169898 Posted on 2018-05-09 17:09:35

I just bred two pairs of horses. One pair were solid seal brown, the other pair had one solid seal brown and one silver seal brown. Both foals turned out chestnut. Maybe it has to do with genetics? Not sure what's going on with this. Could someone take a look and see if they can explain what happened?

Stallion 1 x Mare 1 = Foal 1
Stallion 2 x Mare 2 = Foal 2

'Cause neither parent is homozygous for Ata = brown. :) You aren't guaranteed to have brown based foals; which is why some people breed A LOT, to get a certain color combination.

P.S. - Got a lovely Seal Brown filly for sale if you're interested. ;)

Oh. Will the foals from my pairs carry seal brown?

Possibly, you may have to reveal the genotypes FIRST, to check, and then do Breed Again Solutions for the mares to breed more than twice. :)

you have a 25% of getting a chestnut when you breed Ee Ata horses together, because you have a 25% of loosing the extension gene (E). Those foals might be carrying brown (Ata or AtAt) but because they lost the (E) you won't see the brown.

ee Ata gg crcr dd chch FF Zz pp stysty rbrb ++ Oo spsp lplp patn1patn1 patn2patn2
ee aa gg crcr dd chch FF zz pp stysty rbrb ++ oo spsp lplp patn1patn1 patn2patn2

you got really unlucky on that second one (you only had a 6.25% chance of getting ee aa lolz)

you have a 56.25% chance of getting a seal brown from those horses, so maybe you'll get one c:

when breeding horses that have two heterozygous gene that I'm trying to breed to homozyogus (Ee Ata X Ee Ata = EE AtAt for example) I breed 1-4 times stopping if I get what I want before I get to the forth breeding.
