Let's See Them Spreadsheets!

#167193 Posted on 2018-04-16 12:48:34

Hey all!

So I was working on my spreadsheet for my horses and was wondering what everyone else does to keep track of their herd.

My Spreadsheet

I'd love to get some feedback on my set up and maybe get some ideas on how to improve it from everyone else!

@Kimtia
How often do you update them? Keeping track of each one like that seems really tedious! I update mine weekly on the first day they age.

I don't use spreadsheets. I organize them into mating pairs using my naming system and on the horses that I record stats (only 16 horses in total) I keep them in the public notes of the horses.

I'm too lazy for spreadsheets, but I have mile-markers in my head (5 yro, 10 yro, 15 yro) and check on horses when they reach these to see how they are comparing to other horses in their herd and in general to other horses of similar generation.

I just did the summary page today, I'm so in love with it. I can't wait to get through this full first generation and see how they progress.
It's really helped me to see how far behind my Gypsys, Paints, QHs and Appys are. They are from when I tried to get back into playing last year and didn't really know what I was doing. Compared to my foundation Mustangs, they are a good 4-5 years behind x.x

I Just created the spreadsheet last week so I have yet to update it. However, since the conformation and genetics don't change any, all I have to update is the stats. All of the stud fees and what not are all done by formula, so I don't even need to adjust those, as they grab the info they need.

The biggest problem is not what information I have on the spreadsheet, it is how big my herd is.

I agree with you on herd size, it's hard to keep track of the 110 horses I have active now! I can't imagine trying to track yours!

I keep each breed assigned to a day, the day they age, so I just update by breed. It makes it much easier to know when they were last updated and make sure I got them all

Like aglet, I don't use spreadsheets. I keep track of daily gain via a horse's private notes and have it set up like this:

"Paired With = Whiteout, stud
100 foundation base stats, purchased @ 3 years old from the EC
+12 stats for completing training  =  112

Week 3, Day 1: +8 stats = 120
Week 3, Day 2: +7 stats = 127
Week 3, Day 3: +7 stats = 134
Week 3, Day 4: +6 stats = 140
Week 3, Day 5: +7 stats = 147
Week 3, Day 6: +2 stats = 149
Week 3, Day 7: +9 stats = 158   Novice Level 2 achieved!
Total Stats Earned for the Week: 46

Week 4, Day 1: +5 stats = 163
Week 4, Day 2: +4 stats = 167
Week 4, Day 3: +17 stats = 184
Week 4, Day 4: +6 stats = 190
Week 4, Day 5: +8 stats = 198
Week 4, Day 6: +4 stats = 202   Novice Level 3 achieved!
Week 4, Day 7: +8 stats = 210
Total Stats Earned for the Week: 52"

And so on. It is easier for me to do it this way but I don't get the benefit of seeing everyones stats "side by side" as people do in a spread sheet.
